Values

This section will not only deal with current values. It will also cover past values for select comics through each decade, so you can get a better picture of how these comics have risen in value over the years.

So don't expect every single comic book to be listed in this section. For that, I suggest getting the Overstreet Price Guide. It is the standard that most collectors and dealers use.

Nevertheless, I will cover a lot of values for many key issue comics, especially the ones every good comic investor/collector...whatever you choose to call them...should be keeping an out for.

Please also note that this is a work in progress. If you don't see the comic issue value you're looking for, be sure to bookmark this page and check back often. You can suggest one's as well in the comments section. Enjoy!

  1. Hey TCM,

It's been quite a while now since I last commented on your blog. Seems like work never stops. Nevertheless, I have never stopped reading your blogs even on the run. Because of your blogs my comic book collection has increased exponentially. Anyway, my question is this. Are any books from the EC company of the 1950's worth collecting and investing. As far as I know, TCM hasn't commented on any key books with titles such as Tales from the Crypt, Haunt of Fear, or any other title. You see I had been saving to buy another key book (thanks to you) and while surfing ebay I came across a book titled Haunt of Fear #15 (not 15 (# 1)) from 9-10/1952. It is the lesser of the two and decided to buy it. I don't know if it was worth it since I mostly stick to collecting Marvel and DC comics. It was CGC'd at 8.5 and bought for $400. Did I pay to much for it and it is worth keeping as an investment.

  2. Heya RG, long time, and good to hear from you. NO you did not make a bad investment decision with Golden Age Horror comics. There are fans of that genre and believe it or not, Golden Age horror comics in high grades are extremely scarce in the market place. They are hard finds.

I don't recommend horror comics from the Golden Age, because to be honest, I don't know much about them. I've read that the gorier the cover from the 50s, the more sought out they are. Artist's works are more driven in determining sought after horror books as well.

98% of the requests I get for key issues are superhero related. I've gotten a few requests for golden age horror comics, but I haven't gotten around to them. I do plan on writing up a few horror key lists during this month...obviously.

There has been renewed interest in Golden Age War comics, Romance comics (I have no idea why with romance comics) and Horror comics. They are rare in high grades and War comics and Horror comics are part of history and the history surrounding comics.

The Haunt of Fear #15 is a long term investment for sure. In my want list right now is to own a high grade Golden Age horror comic.
