35 Cent Variant Comics Part 1

I'm whipping this up more for you to check your collections for 35 cent variant comics and see if you got 'em so you don't sell them by mistake and think they're the regular priced copies. Believe me, it happens all the time.

However, if you're a low print, low distribution, or rare comics chaser, this list can surely help you in your hunt as well. The 35 cent variants are definitely getting more play in the current market as collectors, speculators and comic investors are hungry for new things to sink their dollars in.

Marvel Comics used these 35 cent copies as price tests to see how well certain areas took to the new price increase from 30 cents to 35 cents. Since only certain areas within the U.S. were tested, distribution was quite low.

Apparently, the price increase didn't keep readers from buying comics since the comic prices would be raised to 35 cents across the board during the era. The rest is history, and now some collectors consider these low distributed comics rare treasures.

Those that are key issues will be marked no matter how major or minor. Those that are common issues will pretty much just have the publishing date, and there will be a lot more common issues concerning 35 cent price variants than actual keys.

So, whether you got 'em or want 'em, here they are: This is Part 1 to this series.

You never know what hidden gems you may not be aware of that's hiding in your collection. Gerry had the X-Men #297 Gold Pressman variant in his collection for quite a while before he realized exactly what he had, and he got that in a comic lot for super cheap.

Apparently, the original owner wasn't aware of the gem either, so before you start dumping what you consider junk, you may have one of these in your collection without even knowing.

Despite what you think about Amethyst Princess of Gem World, the 35 cent variants are extremely rare and they are divided up between Direct Editions and Newssstand Editions. The regular Direct Editions have an estimated 1,000 copies in existence for Amethyst #1 and only 800 estimated copies for Amethyst #2.

The Newsstands are probably even harder to find, although I could not find any information to confirm this. The 35 cent variants for Amethyst #1 & 2 were test marketed only in St. Louis, Missouri and Austin, Texas.

If you have either of Amethyst 35 variant issues, it's probably the one to have out of all the 35 variants displayed in Part 1 of this series. If you stumble upon these in a bargain bin by accident, do not ask the seller if the price is correct. Just bring it up with whatever bargain bin price is on it, pay the price, thank the seller and be gone.

They most likely won't be easy finds however. Actually, quite a few of the 35 cent variants aren't exactly easy finds online or off. They'll be a hunt for sure if you're on the hunt for 'em.

Just click the PART 2 link to continue with this 35 cent variant comics list.
