The New Spider-Man Movies Will Have New Villains?

Looks like Spidey news is definitely heating up across the web. Pun definitely intended. We recently got our casting confirmation for our new Peter Parker in which actor Tom Holland has landed, but now Kevin Feige has landed some new quotes about the villains for these new Spider-Man flicks.

Speaking with Birth Movies Death at the "Ant-Man" press junket, Kevin Feige said, "Right now we're interested in seeing villains we haven't seen before."

Oh, shiz, he just did, didn't he? Obviously, this is a move to separate and differentiate the new reboot from the past Spider-Man movies as much as possible.

So, that means scratch out the Green Goblin. Scratch out the Lizard. Scratch out Venom. Scratch out Doctor Octopus, Electro, Rhino and Sandman for any of the reboot Spider-Man movies.

Feige also added, "It's the soap opera in high school, and those supporting characters, that are interesting. Just as we hadn't seen a heist movie in a long time, or a shrinking movie in a long time, we haven't seen a John Hughes movie in a long time. Not that we can make a John Hughes movie - only John Hughes could - but we're inspired by him, and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we haven't done before excites us."

Wow, really, John Hughes influenced Spidey flick? That kind of statement really tugs at the question of what kind of villains will make sense in menacing this John Hughes influenced Webslinger in the new reboot?

"Stakes don't need to be end of the world," Feige said of the movie and also indicated that Spider-Man didn't have to be part of the larger Marvel Universe in order to "work."

So villains we've yet to see? Jeez, that means a whole bunch of candidates to choose from, and Feige's comments has really put a huge question mark as to the next great or not-so-great Spidey villain to hinder the new Spider-Man on the big screen.

Interesting bit of recent news. Any ideas as to which new villains it will be for this Spider-Man reboot?

  1. Well, since The first super villain that Spidey went up against in comics was The Chameleon, I don't see why it couldn't be him. There are so many different villains it could be but that's just my first thought.

    1. That would actually be really interesting to see. I wouldn't mind if they went that route.

    5. Ok, since I've never been to NC, I might as well ask since I'm heading there next summer. Do you guys usually have rain during the summer but it's humid or hot? Light rain or showers? Don't wanna be walking around Heroescon like a wet dog. Haha!

  3. Be nice to see Kraven the Hunter on the big screen. Maybe cast Gerald Butler in the role...?

    1. Oh snap, good choice for an actor to play Kraven!!! I can definitely see that. I'd love for Kraven to finally be used in one of the Spidey reboot flicks.

    2. I can see Kraven being in the reboot, but not in the first movie though. They have to establish Spider-Man as a "menace" before they can bring him in.

    3. I think they'll use Kraven too. There was a lot of talk about doing the "Kraven's Last Hunt" Storyline, but that was before Sony worked out the deal with Marvel. But I still think they'll use him. Maybe Chameleon, Mysterio, Vulture, Hydro Man or Scorpion.

I think they eventually need to get back to Green Goblin (maybe by the 3rd film) because I thought both versions of GG that we got so far were terrible. I'd love to see Hobgoblin too, but they can't do that until we get a proper Green Goblin.

  4. Holy Makerel!

That leaves unlimited space for speculation! Another sleeper villain would be Tombstone. Or, what about Rhino? Just kidding. Leave the last one in his cage...

  5. Hey TCM, thanks again for the news! I would love to see one of my favourite villains - Carnage!
But I think that won't happen. Kravens last hunt is a good shout!

    1. I still wouldn't write off Carnage or Venom just yet. If the reboot Spidey flicks go well...I'm sure Sony will get greedy and want to start doing some spin-offs again.

  7. Hey,

since we almost have the whole Spiderman-rogue galery complete, I will throw in the Tarantula and the Punisher - heck, why not? They can put the comic on screen one to one, I wouldn' t mind.

    1. Ace, I'm all for the Punisher being a villain in a Spidey flick. Probably will never happen unless Spidey rights go back to Marvel really soon, but it would still be awesome!

  8. If them movieguys have any balls, they will do the Clone-Story. Clone-Story will make fanboys scream. Loads of attention guaranted. They will need that. But movieguys probably don' t have balls.

  9. I LOOOOVE the idea of the Spidey clone series in the movie. I personally think that Gerry Conway is the best writer for Spidey (basically the 1970s stuff).

1st movie: introduce creepy Professor Miles Warren. The villain in the first movie should be Mysterio. He is so quirky and different (not destroying the entire city but rather mind magic stuff) I think it would be great.

2nd movie: Jackal, clone story, etc.

Maybe bring in the Grizzly from ASM #139 (OK just kidding about the last one). MYSTERIO!! Stick a goldfish bowl on Jon Hamm and make it happen. - Wiebes
