Chiwetel Ejiofor Doctor Strange Role Revealed!

All I can say is, "Finally!"

Seriously! With all the anticipation and speculation concerning who will Chiwetel Ejiofor gonna play in the upcoming Doctor Strange movie, I admittedly was getting sick of it.

Especially when quite a few were speculating about the actor playing Brother Voodoo and requesting Brother Voodoo key issues. Another character he was speculated to play was Wong, Strange's Asian faithful servant.

Well, typical of comic book movie franchises, it looks like they fooled us and pulled another race swap. Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Baron Mordo, Doctor Strange's ultimate nemesis and foe.

One thing that I know, Chiwetel Ejiofor can play a highly effective villain, which he did an astounding job as the venomous Victor Sweet in Four Brothers. The man has acting chops for sure, but I'm sure this recent news has ruffled the feathers of quite a few comic purists.

Debuting in Strange Tales #111 and created by comic legends Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Baron Mordo was a nobleman from Transylvania that became a student of the Tibetan sorcerer known as the Ancient One.

Mordo learned the arts of magic but planned to kill the Ancient One. Of course, Dr. Stephen Strange foiled his plans and replaced Mordo as the Ancient One's protege.

Baron Mordo would forever be in conflict with Strange, lusting for more knowledge of magic and power until he ultimately sold his soul to none other than Mephisto to obtain it. Might be a great time to introduce Mephisto in Marvel and Disney's Cinematic Universe.

So we have our Doctor Strange, Ancient One, and Baron Mordo cast for the Doctor Strange movie. Strike out for Brother Voodoo this time around, but that doesn't mean that character won't appear ever in the franchise.

To be honest, I'd much rather see Disney build upon the character of Baron Mordo as a constant villain for the franchise than be a one-off villain. There's a lot that can be done with the character.

One thing for sure, Doctor Strange has a lot of talent in the cast so far. Chiwetel Ejiofor is Baron Mordo, and Doctor Strange is set to hit theaters November 4, 2016.

I agree with the Baron lingering around for future appearances. I do not understand why franchises are so keen on killing of villains instead of letting them help build the world like they have in comics. I think Dormammu would be great as well.

To the Brother Voodoo point. Man, I hoped he would be there. Leaving him out is a surprise as his character is included in the soon to be released Doctor Strange action figure set. Maybe he might sneak in...Perhaps this is just a fake out. Ejiofor will be Brother Voodoo and they will include Dormammu for the win! I can always hope :)

    1. Brother Voodoo might be in the movie or the sequel. Who knows? So far the cast is only three we know about.

I'd rather see Dormammu than Brother Voodoo to be honest. I think they might do away with the character of Wong completely.

  2. Hi Mayhem,

wanted to bring up a new topic on which to set your nose on: Collecting 2nd issues. Perhaps there is some potential, especially when a number one is on the rise. I was thinking about comics like Iron Man 2 or Daredevil 2. Maybe other TCM readers would be interested too...
