Crossover Comic Book Key Issues Part 6

We are at Part 6 to this crossover comic book key issues, and to tell you the truth, I didn't think the series would go this far. There's obviously quite a bit of important ones, and although I've already featured many of these keys elsewhere, there's quite a few I've yet to discuss concerning their crossover key status.

Quite a few first classic crossovers in this chapter of the series and mostly Marvel. If you missed Part 5, just click that blue link. Otherwise, let's roll on with the next batch of comic book key issues.

1st Sgt. Fury classic crossover

Gonna have to backtrack on this one. Fantastic Four #21 is the 1st classic crossover for Nick Fury as Sgt. Fury. Some tote it as the first modern appearance of Nick Fury as well. Don't quite know about that for certain, but it is the first crossover for the character in this issue.

This comic should've been in Part 5 to this series, but I guess I'll have to put it here out of publishing date order for the meantime. I will exchange it with FF #25 that ended Part 5, so don't be surprised if you see those two listings switched out soon.

Fantastic Four #21 was published December, 1963.

eBay - Appears to be no problem finding a copy of this one on the mighty eBay at the moment. Quite a few raw copies, but I'm sure most are in the low to mid grade. A very small few may be higher or in the VF range. CGCs are present. Highest located are two 9.0 VF/NMs, and the 2nd highest is an 8.5 VF+. Two 7.5s as well with one of them being quite decently priced.

mycomicshop - One CGC 9.0 VF/NM and a raw VG/FN are on consignment here.

ComicConnect - One CCG 9.0 and three raw copies. Highest raw is a 7.5 VF minus. Last two options are a VG/FN and a VG.

ComicLink - Four CGC copies here, and the two highest are a 9.2 NM and a 9.0 VF/NM. Lowest CGC copy is a 7.0 FN/VF. There are low grade raw copies here also.

Hulk vs. Thing continued
4rth Avengers classic crossover (2nd with Cap)

The next issue of Fantastic Four continues the epic Hulk vs. Thing battle. It gets to the point where the battle nears the Avenges mansion, and Earth's Mightiest Heroes get in on the fray as well.

Fantastic Four sees the 2nd Avengers classic crossover with Captain America and is the 4rth total crossover for the team also. Definitely another great key comic investment and was published May, 1964.

eBay - Doesn't look like there's a scarcity of this issue here also. Plenty of raw copies to sift through. Saw a PGX 7.5 and a few CGC options. Highest two are a 9.2 NM minus and a 9.0 VF/NM. Also spotted an 8.0 VF. Mid-grade CGC slabs also available at the time of this writing.

mycomicshop - Only one CGC 5.0 VG/FN copy and two raw copies present at the moment. The raw copies are a FN minus and a VG/FN.

ComicConnect - Quite a few copies here at ComicConnect. Highest is a 9.4 NM, and the 2nd highest an 8.0 VF. Both are CGC and the last two CGC slabbers are a 7.5 VF minus and a 6.5 FN+. Quite a few raw copies as well, but they are all low grade. Highest raw is a VG/FN.

ComicLink - Highest CGC copy is an 8.0 VF regular Universal and an 8.0 Signature Series. Two 7.5 VF minuses, and one raw 7.0 FN/VF. There's also a CGC 7.0 FN/VF copy, as well as a 6.0 FN.

1st Iceman classic crossover
1st Iceman and Human Torch team up

The X-Men get a cameo in this issue and it is considered a classic crossover for the team. However, the story involves the member of Iceman a lot more than the actual team.

Apparently, just like with Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne in Superman #76, both Johnny Storm and Bobby Drake take the same cruise ship and immediately are in competition over the affections of a lady. Sound pretty similar there.

When pirates invade the cruise ship, Johnny Storm and Bobby Drake must team up as Human Torch and Iceman to save the day. May, 1964 was when the 1st Iceman classic crossover and team up with Human Torch was published.

eBay - Limited selection but there are some raw copies and a few slabbed ones. Highest slab is a PGX 7.0 though. A few mid-grade CGCs, and a few higher grade raw copies at the moment.

mycomicshop - Two raw copies here with one a high grade 9.0 VF/NM. Other copy is a low grade GD+ but it is in stock.

NewKadia - Only one GD+ copy here for now.

1st Dr. Strange classic crossover
1st meeting of Dr. Strange & FF

Here we are and back with Marvel Comics' first family. Issue #27 holds the first time Dr. Strange meets the Fantastic Four. This issue also happens to be the first Dr. Strange classic crossover as well.

The story is called exactly what it is on the cover, which is The Search for Submariner, and this story sees the FF call upon Dr. Strange for help. Since Subby has the hots for Sue Storm, he kidnaps her when she refuses to be his queen again, and this sends Reed Richards in a jealous rage to find her.

Great Dr. Strange key issue, and Fantastic Four #27 was published June, 1964.

eBay - Once again, no shortage of copies of this key on eBay. Quite a few raw copies for sure. Highest CGC copy is a 9.4 NM, but there are a few 8.5s and 8.0s. One 8.5 VF+ is better priced and the other two are pretty over-bloated. There's also a 7.5 VF minus CGC copy there for the moment.

mycomicshop - Five copies here and all are raw. Highest is a FN/VF, and two auctions next month are happening for a FN+ and a FN minus. Lowest grade is a GD and it's the only one in actual stock.

NewKadia - Two raw copies here, and they are a VG minus and a GD+.

ComicConnect - One CGC 9.4 NM going up for auction March 2, 2015. Other CGC copy is a 5.0 VG/FN for immediate sale. Rest are raw copies and the highest is a 7.0 FN/VF. All raw copies after that one are in the low grade realm at the moment.

3rd Justice League of America crossover
1st appearance of Blackhand

The Justice League of America do make a brief guest appearance in Green Lantern #29 and offer their help to Hal Jordan. Green Lantern ultimately refuses and decides to take care of the menace himself.

The story that the Justice League of America appears in is not the story that Blackhand makes his first appearance. The JLA are shown in the 2nd story, This World is Mine!

Looking at my copy the Justice League of America shows up in about seven panels in the story. Just a little more umphff to add to key issue goodness of this comic. Green Lantern #29 was published June, 1964.

eBay - Not much of a selection here this key issue. Only a few raw copies available for now. No CGC at the time of this writing but that will change in time.

ComicConnect - Only two copies here and one is a CGC and the other a raw copy. CGC copy is a 9.0 VF/NM and goes up for auction March 3rd, 2015. Raw copy is a 6.0 FN.

1st Thor classic crossover
1st appearance of the Beetle

Strange indeed, but the Mighty Thor makes his first classic crossover in the Dr. Strange story, The Challenge of Loki! As the title suggests, Loki is the main trouble maker in this story, and I believe it's the 3rd classic crossover for Loki if it does indeed count.

Of course, if it does count, Avengers #1 and #7 would be Loki's 1st and 2nd classic crossovers. Strange Tales #123 is indeed Thor's first crossover though, and the 1st appearance of the Beetle is in the Human Torch story.

Some good stuff here, and this issue was published August, 1964.

eBay - Only a few options here for this overlooked key. Well, some grades are overlooked. CGC 9.4 is the highest and top grade so far and is under the $1000 mark and has a Best Offer. A CGC 9.0 VF/NM is also present and at a decent price. An 8.0 VF is around the $200 mark at the time of this writing.

mycomicshop - Only one FN minus raw copy on consignment for now.

ComicConnect - Two CGC copies here with the highest a 9.4 NM. Other copy is an 8.5 VF+, and the last option is a raw FN.

ComicLink - Only one CGC 9.4 NM copy here at the moment. That's all folks, for now.

1st Daredevil classic crossover
1st Spidey and Daredevil meeting

This is a pretty mighty first crossover for Daredevil, and most know that it's the first time Daredevil and Spider-Man meet in comics. Not too sure if this first meeting was retconned in a later story or comic, but this is the first published meeting of the two iconic superheroes.

Hypnotized by The Ringmaster, Spidey and Daredevil duke it out briefly for the first time as well. Amazing Spider-Man #16 has the publishing date of September, 1964, and is definitely one of the Silver Age Spidey keys worth adding to your vault. Classic cover as well.

eBay - No problem finding a copy of this 1st Daredevil classic crossover on eBay. Plenty of raw copies available and quite a few CGCs as well. Highest CGCs are two 9.4 NMs. Other high grade options and low to mid grade as well.

mycomicshop - All raw copies and the two highest are a FN+ and VG/FN. Other raw copies are lower grade, but everyone copy here at the time of this writing is on consignment.

ComicConnect - Four CGC copies starting from a 9.6 NM+ and ending with a CGC VF. Two go up for auction in March with the other two available for immediate sale. Highest raw copy is a VF and followed by a FN/VF.

ComicLink - CGC 9.6 NM+, an 8.0 VF, and two 7.5 VF minuses are all that's here for now. All are CGC and no raw copies yet.

Part 6 is concluded and not too many over-looked or under the radar keys in this one. Definitely some are more solid comics to invest in. A lot of them are already up there in price concerning high grade near mint copies.

We'll be pushing a long with Part 7 to this crossover comic book key issues series. If any of you are already getting bored with this series and want to move onto something else, just comment so. If there are enough of those comments I may do so.

Otherwise, click the PREVIOUS link if you missed Part 5, and stay tuned for PART 7 is ready so just click the blue link below to continue.
