Wolverine Key Issue Comics Part 4

Welcome to more Wolverine key issue comics, and we are here at Part 4. This part is definitely slashing it's way into the Copper Age of Wolverine key issues, and we have finally hit some of Wolverine's own titled and on-going series. Of course, there will be some X-Ment titled comics as well sprinkled here and there and that should be expected to continue as the list further progresses.

If you missed the previous part, just click this Part 3 link to go back. If you're ready to hack and slash onward, enjoy the mayhem!

UNCANNY X-MEN #173
First Rogue and Wolverine team up
Mariko calls off wedding

Rogue joined the X-Men in issue #171 just before this story arc, so given her past, Logan doesn't trust her too much. However, the two end up teaming up together for a solo mission for the first time in comics in this issue.

In the end, Mariko calls off the wedding with Logan stating that she could not marry the man who killed her father, which was portrayed in the limited, four issue Wolverine series prior. In terms of a Wolverine key issue, this is a pretty minor one, but in terms of an X-Men key issue, this issue sees the first appearance of Storm with her punk rock look and mohawk. This was published September, 1983.

mycomicshop - Only unslabbed copies here, and there's four at the moment. Highest is a VF copy.

eBay - Only a handful of CGC copies so far. Two 9.8s and one 9.6 are the highest available.

ComicLink - Three options here. Two CGC 9.8s and one VF+ 8.5. The VF+ is a price variant.

ALPHA FLIGHT #33
First appearance of Lady Deathstrike

This issue sees the first appearance of Lady Deathstrike, a character that has been well-linked to Wolverine and the X-Men as well. Her character was portrayed on the big screen by Kelly Hu in the movie X-2.

Since her first appearance as Lady Deathstrike, she has become an extremely popular villain for Wolverine. Her real name is Yuriko Oyama, and it should be known that the character Yuriko Oyama first appeared in Daredevil #197.

Still a pretty over-looked Copper Age key issue and not that expensive in high grade CGC 9.8s yet. This was published April, 1986.

mycomicshop - Two unslabbed copies with the highest being a VF.

eBay - Quite a few options for raw unslabbed copies and only a few options for CGC copies. Most are 9.8s for slabs here.

ComicConnect - One CGC 9.6 NM+ here.

ALPHA FLIGHT #34
Partial Wolverine origin revealed
2nd Lady Deathstrike

Remember in an earlier part of this Wolverine key issue comics list how I mentioned that Heather Hudson played an important part of Wolverine's mysterious past? Well, it's revealed in this Alpha Flight issue.

A total definite sleeper and not so widely known, this issue sees Lady Deathstrike tell Wolverine that his adamantium laced bones are the property of her father, the man who created adamantium. Heather Hudson then remembers a secret file that her husband did not want her to see about fusing adamantium to bone.

This issue reveals a bit about how Wolverine got his adamantium laced bones and that the Alpha Flight folks and their superiors may somehow be connected to it, setting the stage for another extremely important story arc that would see the origin of Weapon X. May, 1986 was when this comic was published.

mycomicshop - One unslabbed VF and another unslabbed FN here at the time of this writing.

eBay - No problem finding unslabbed copies on the mighty eBay at the moment. Different story for slabbed copies here. At the time of this writing, no CGC for this issue.

NewKadia - Four copies in stock at the moment. Highest is a low NM

UNCANNY X-MEN #212
1st published Wolverine vs. Sabretooth
1st Sabretooth in Uncanny X-Men comic series

When it comes to Wolverine foes, Sabretooth is the most popular to fans! No other character has caused as much mischief for the little runt, nor has given him worthy battles that fans just can't get enough of. Although this is part of the fan-favorite Mutant Massacre story line, lots of collectors over-look the fact that this issue is actually the first appearance of Sabretooth in the X-Men titled comic series.

I keep getting emails about the semantics of "X-Men titled comic series", and getting pretty tired of them pointing out that X-Factor #10 is Sabretooth's 1st appearance in an "X-Men book". I'm not talking about X-Factor or an X-titled spin-off comic series, I am talking about the "X-Men" or "Uncanny X-Men" comic series.

But I'll change the wording if it causes that much damned confusion for some. Jeezus, I thought "X-Men title" not "X-Factor title" was clear enough, but apparently not!

Back to the comic at hand. Although the famous battles between the two have been written in later years to appear earlier in Marvel's canon or historical timeline, this is actually the first published battle in real life history between Wolverine and Sabretooth.

A very important and over-looked Wolverine key issue, as well as Sabretooth key issue, to snag! This should be a great comic investment and was published December, 1986.

mycomicshop - All unslabbed copies here at the moment. Two VFs are the highest.

eBay - Quite a few CGC copies on the mighty eBay. High grade 9.8s are present at the moment. No problem finding unslabbed copies either.

ComicLink - Only two CGC slabs here. One is a NM 9.4 and the other a 9.0 VF/NM.

ComicConnect - Only one unslabbed 9.2 low NM copy here at the moment. No CGC copies yet.

UNCANNY X-MEN #213
2nd Sabretooth in Uncanny X-Men titled series
2nd published Wolverine vs. Sabretooth
1st Sabretooth on X-Men cover

If the first time Sabretooh and Wolverine brawl and meet in the X-Men titled series is on this list, then you can be sure that the 2nd published Wolverine and Sabretooth brawl will be right after it. Uncanny X-Men #213 is also part of the Mutant Massacre story line and also sees the 2nd time Sabretooth appears in the X-Men comics. However, this issue has the first time Sabretooth graces the cover of this titled series. This Wolverine key issue was published January, 1987.

mycomicshop - Quite a few copies here. Five CGC 9.8s with three of them being Signature Series. Only two are Universal slabs. Unslabbed raw copies in stock as well. Highest raw copies are VFs.

eBay - No problem finding CGC 9.8 copies for now on eBay. A few other CGC options available like 9.6s. Some unslabbed copies to consider if you're not into slabs.

ComicLink - Three CGC 9.8s here and a one CGC 9.6 are the highest copies. There's also two 9.2s and a 9.0 VF/NM copy as well.

ComicConnect - Two CGC copies located. One is a CGC 9.8 and the other a CGC 9.6 NM+. The rest are unslabbed copies with the highest being two 9.4 NMs.

WOLVERINE #1 VOLUME #2
1st Wolverine on-going comic series
First appearance Cult of the Black Blade
First appearance of Muramasa
1st Wolverine as Patch
To be honest, I never really liked the whole Madripoor story line that went on during the early issues of Wolverine's first on-going titled series. Regardless, it is an important key issue and  a pretty sought after comic investment from the Copper Age. It also holds two first appearances, one of which is Muramasa. He, of course, is the leader of the Cult of the Black Blade, the Black Blade being a sword which he forged.

This comic was published November, 1988 and is one of the Wolverine key issue comics to definitely gun for in high grades as an investment comic.

mycomicshop - Quite a lot of copies here, but only four slabs. Three of them are PGX with the highest grades being 9.8s. Two CGCs that are a 9.8 and a 9.6. The 9.6 is a Signature Series signed by Stan Lee. Quite a few unslabbed options as well.

eBay - Boatload of options here at the time of this writing for both slabbed and unslabbed. High grade CGC slabs are available and ripe for the taking.

ComicLink - No problem finding slabbed copies of this Wolverine key issue at ComicLink. Plenty of 9.8s and other graded options too.

ComicConnect - A few CGC copies here so far. Two CGC 9.8s and two CGC 9.6s available for the taking.

Wolverine Key Issue Comics Part 3

Slashing our way into Part 3 of this Wolverine key issue comics list, we finally get into some comics that deal with Wolverine's own titled series. We're still in the Bronze Age, but will pretty much be wrapping that era up concerning everyone's favorite mutant bezerker.

If you missed Part 2 to this key issue series, feel free to click this Part 2 link to go back and give it a good run through. If you're ready, let's get it on - Snikt! Snakt!

WOLVERINE #1 1982 LIMITED SERIES
1st solo comic book series
1st cameo of Yukio
1st appearance of Shingen Harada

Here we are with a personal favorite story line of mine by Chris Claremont featuring Wolverine. This is probably one of the best solo Wolverine stories ever by writer Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, and it's certainly a classic.

Many fans have the story arc for this very first Wolverine series as a fan-favorite and Hollywood even loosely based The Wolverine movie off this 1982 limited series. Not only is this the first solo comic book series featuring Wolverine, it also has the first cameo appearance of Yukio and the first appearance of Shingen Harada, father of Mariko and the Silver Samurai.

I've mentioned this Bronze age key issue a few times here, and CGC 9.6s are still highly under-valued. This was published September, 1982.

mycomicshop - A lot of copies here for this key issue. No shortage of CGC options to consider and definitely no problem finding 9.8s.

eBay - Like most places online, this comic is pretty plentiful in both CGC and unslabbed copies on the mighty eBay. CGC 9.8 copies present as well as other high grade options at the time of this writing.

ComicLink - No problem finding this comic here either. Actually, a whole lot of slabbed awesome is currently at ComicLink. Quite a lot of CGC 9.8s with even one one PGX 9.9 copy.

ComicConnect - Wow, what can you say but no shortage of CGC 9.8s for this issue at ComicConnect. Some other graded options as well.

WOLVERINE #2 1982 LIMITED SERIES
1st full appearance of Yukio

Although other sources list Wolverine #1 as the first appearance of Yukio, the industry notes Wolverine #2 as the first full appearance of Yukio. The character was also portrayed in the The Wolverine film last year. October, 1982 was when this comic book was published.

mycomicshop - Three CGC copies here so far. Highest is a 9.6 NM+, and there are a ton of unslabbed copies.

eBay - Less of a selection here for CGC copies. Some 9.6s and 9.4s at the time of this writing. Decent amount of unslabbers present.

ComicLink - Options for this issue is more limited than issue #1. There is an astounding CGC 9.9 copy of this key issue and only one  CGC 9.8. There are two CGC 9.6s though and a 9.4 NM. No raw unslabbers as of yet.

ComicConnect - Only two CGC copies and both are 9.8s. Some unslabbed copies as well with one claiming to be a 9.9.

WOLVERINE #3 1982 LIMITED SERIES
Death of Asano Kimura

Killed by Yukio, the death of Asano Kimura reveals that Yukio had been deceiving Wolvie all along. He goes after her and a battle ensues. Just when Wolvie is about to end her, he is attacked by The Hand.

Asano Kimura first appeared in the first issue of this limited series. This is a minor key issue in the grand scheme of Wolverine key issues, but it is sought out because it's a fan-favorite story arc, and part of the first Wolverine titled series in comics.

Still relatively affordable in high grade CGCs as well. November, 1982 was when this comic was published.

mycomicshop - Only two CGC copies here. Highest is a 9.6 NM+ and the other is a 9.4 NM. Quite a few unslabbed copies at the time of this writing there.

eBay - Surprised there's no CGC 9.8s at the moment. There are 9.6 NM+s and a few other slabbed options but selection is pretty limited. A couple of raw copies as well.

ComicLink - One CGC 9.8 and quite a few CGC 9.6s. Also a bit of CGC 9.4s available at ComicLink as of this writing.

ComicConnect - A few CGC options here. One is a CGC 9.9 under the old Modern label though. No 9.8s but there is a 9.6 and a 9.2 low NM. One unslabbed copy spotted.

MARVEL GRAPHIC NOVEL #5
First appearance of William Stryker

Another extremely important character not only to the X-Men mythos but Wolverine's as well. William Stryker has been known to be involved in the Weapon X Program and was implied to have something to do with Wolverine obtaining his adamantium laced bones.

His first appearance is in this Marvel Graphic Novel #5, though it's not revealed that Stryker was a part of the Weapon X program in this issue and his character would be attached to the program in later issues, uncovering more of Wolverine's mysterious past. Still, the first appearance of William Stryker is definitely an important Wolverine key issue to be noted on this list for sure.

His character has been portrayed in the movies X-2 and X-Men Days of Future Past. This graphic novel was published November, 1982.

eBay - There are actually some CGC options here on eBay. Highest is a CGC 9.8 followed by a 9.6. Also raw copies available too.

ComicConnect - Bringing the goodness on this issue, ComicConnect has an unslabbed VF copy!

WOLVERINE #4 1982 LIMITED SERIES
Death of Shingen Harada
Death of Noburu-Hideki

Once again, Yukio takes out another fool in this series. This time it's Noburu-Hideki, Mariko's abusive husband and crime lord. However, Wolverine and Mariko's father Shingen Harada go at it in another epic battle.

In the first issue of this series, Wolverine is badly beaten by Shingen Harada in their first encounter. This time Wolvie takes out Shingen Harada, and the end shows Logan and Mariko engaged to be married. Comic was published December, 1982.

mycomicshop - Four CGC options with the highest two being a 9.8 and 9.6 NM+. Actually, there's two 9.6s and one is a Signature Series triple signed by John Romita, Herb Trimpe, and Joe Rubinstein. Quite a few unslabbed options but none super high grade.

eBay - Pretty limited selection in terms of CGC on here at the moment. There is one CGC 9.8 and a few 9.6s. A few raw copies as well with some in comic lots.

ComicLink - Seven copies here at the moment. Highest is a CGC 9.8, but only one. Three CGC 9.6 NM+ copies and one of them is a pedigree.

ComicConnect - Only two CGC copies, in which the highest is 9.6 NM+ and the second is a 9.4 NM.

UNCANNY X-MEN #172
Silver Samurai revealed as Mariko's half brother

Another fan-favorite tale of Japan regarding Wolverine, this story arc is the first time it's revealed that the Silver Samurai and Mariko are half brother and sister, meaning Shingen Harada had an illegitimate son with another. Oh, the drama! In this tale, the X-Men fly over to Japan to prepare for the wedding of Wolverine and Mariko, but as everything with comics, things go astray.

This comic is in the viewpoint of Wolverine. Great Wolverine key issue comic that shouldn't be ignored if you're an X-Men or Wolvie fan. August, 1983 was when this comic was published.

mycomicshop - Only two copies here with one being a CGC and the other an unslabbed raw copy. CGC copy is a 9.8 and the unslabbed is a 9.0 VF/NM!

eBay - Only four CGC options at the moment. All are CGC 9.8s and still under the $100 mark. Quite a few raw copies at the time of this writing too. Some in comic lots.

ComicLink - One CGC 9.8 copy. Not sure if there's two or not because either the description title is wrong or it's the wrong picture.

ComicConnect - Only unslabbed copies here at the moment. Highest is a 9.0 VF/NM.

Alright that concludes Part 3 to this Wolverine key issue comics list, but Part 4 is ready and definitely has some Wolverine key issues from his on-going titled series during the 80s. Just click the blue PART 4 link to continue with this key Wolverine list.

If you missed Part 2, just click the PREVIOUS link below to head on back. Other than that, see you back here for Part 4!

Wolverine Key Issue Comics List Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 to this Wolverine key issue comics list! Please remember that this Wolverine key issues list will span across various titles. The character was mainly used as a supporting role during his early career in comics, especially the X-Men.

I will only be listing important comics that significantly pertain to Wolverine's over-all mythos. There will be many issues on here that have key issue statuses of other importance, but the ones noted on this list will only be related to its featured character.

At first this list will seem like a revamped X-Men key issues list but we will start getting into his self titled series and other comic titles as well. Click here if you missed Part 1 of this list. If not, get out your want lists and get ready to go into bezerker mode.

THE X-MEN #101
Wolverine's feelings for Jean Grey revealed

If there was the ultimate love triangle ever played out in comics, the best had to be in the pages of the X-Men between Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Wolverine. In fact, the pairing of Wolverine and Jean Grey hadn't been limited to just some X-Men fans, writer Chris Claremont also wanted to pair Wolverine and Jean Grey together ever since Scott Summers ditched Madelyne Pryor in much later issues.

X-Men 101 not only sees the first appearance of Phoenix, but also sees the first time Wolverine admits to having feelings for Jean Grey. It would be later revealed that Jean Grey also shares an attraction for Wolverine as well, but does not love him like she does Scott Summers. Just like Wolvie to bring out that primal urge in a woman.

The often messed up relationship between Jean and Wolverine has been a big part of his character throughout the years, so this one goes down as a key issue belonging on this list. This was published, October, 1976.

mycomicshop - Only one CGC copy here at the moment. It's a 9.2 and a Signature Series signed by Chris Claremont. Three unslabbed copies with the highest being a VF/NM 9.0 and the lowest a 4.0 VG that's up for auction.

eBay - Definitely not scarce on the mighty eBay for this key issue. Quite a few unslabbed and CGC slabs at the moment. No problem finding 9.6 or 9.4 slabs. A good deal on them is a different story, though.

ComicLink - More CGC options to compare prices. Two CGC 9.8s and two CGC 9.6 NM+s here for now. No unslabbed copies.

ComicConnect - Two very high grade CGC copies here. One is a 9.8 and the other a 9.6 NM+. One unslabbed copy as well, and it's a 9.2 low NM.

THE X-MEN #109
First time Wolverine referred to as Weapon X
First appearance of The Guardian
First appearance of James Hudson
First appearance of Department H

A whopper of of an X-Men key issue that has quite a bit of important details that further sheds some light on Wolverine's mysterious past, X-Men #109 sees the first appearance of James Hudson, revealed to be a secret agent for the Canadian government defense program called Department H. Although unnamed, the first appearance of Department H is also in this issue.

Tasked with a mission to retrieve his once partner, James Hudson suits up in the famous battle suit as The Guardian. He would later be known as Vindicator.

Once found, Guardian tells Wolverine that he is still the property of the Canadian government and for the first time in comics, Wolverine is referred to as his other famous codename that comic fans would identify the feisty mutant with - Weapon X.

mycomicshop - Two slabs here. The CGC copy is a 9.6 NM+ and a Signature Series signed by Stan Lee. The second copy is a PGX 9.2.

eBay - Selection for CGC copies is a bit more limited with this key on eBay. Highest is a 9.8 and located a few 9.4 NM slabs as well. There's a few raw copies if you're not into third party graded books.

ComicLink - Two 9.6 NM+ copies here and one unslabbed 9.2 low NM for now.

ComicConnect - Two CGC copies at the moment of this writing. An awesome 9.8 and a 9.2 low NM are ready for the taking. A 9.2 low NM is the highest out of two unslabbed copies.

THE X-MEN #118
First appearance of Mariko Yashida

Another important character in the history of Wolverine's mythos, Mariko Yashida is another well-known and fan-favorite past lover of Logan, and the first appearance of Mariko Yashida is in the pages of  this comic, X-Men #118. The character has already been featured in The Wolverine movie, and would appear in the comics quite often in some of the best and fan-favorite story arcs involving the mutie bezerker.

Not just a great X-Men key issue, but also a great Wolverine key issue to own also. This comic was published February, 1979.

mycomicshop - Three graded slabbers with the highest being a CGC 9.8 and the other a CGC 9.6 NM+. The last option for slabs is a 9.0 PGX. Three high grade raw copies with one up for auction at the moment.

eBay - Good amount of copies for both raw unslabbers and slabs. Plenty of high grade slabs. Just click the blue eBay link to be taken to the search results for X-Men #118.

ComicLink - Quite a few copies here. A gorgeous 9.8 resides here just ready for the taking. Also, quite a few beautiful CGC 9.6 NM+ copies as well. Three unslabbed copies with the highest being a 9.0 VF/NM.

ComicConnect - Only one CGC copy so far and it's a whole lot of awesome at a 9.8! Two unslabbed raw copies also. A solid NM is the best grade so far out of the two. Lowest raw copy is a 6.0 FN.

THE X-MEN #119
2nd appearance of Mariko Yashida

Wouldn't be a Wolverine key issue comics list without the 2nd appearance of Mariko Yashida, would it? Of course, it wouldn't and that's why it's listed here.

For those of you who like to collect or invest in 2nd appearances of comic characters, this one would one for any X-Men or Wolverine fan to add their vault. This comic was published March, 1979.

mycomicshop - Five graded copies with three being CGCs and two PGXs. Two 9.8s are both CGC and so is the 9.6 NM+. Both of the PGXs are 9.2 low NM copies, and there are some unslabbed raw copies for this key issue here.

eBay - No problem finding high grade CGC copies for this one on the mighty eBay at the time of this writing. Some unslabbed copies as well but don't know how high grade they are or not. You'll just have to check it out yourself.

ComicLink - Highlights are one CGC 9.8 and quite a few CGC 9.6 copies here. Also a few high grade unslabbed copies. Highest raw copy is a 9.0 VF/NM, and there's also a VF+ raw unslabber too.

ComicConnect - A gorgeous CGC 9.6 NM+ is the top grade here so far. There's also a 9.2 low NM also. The last two are unslabbed copies and the highest among them is a 9.4 NM.

THE X-MEN #120
First brief appearance of Alpha Flight

One of the few Canadian superhero teams in comics and probably the most well-known, Alpha Flight was created by legendary comic artist John Byrne, and the team's first initial purpose was merely to add an additional backstory for Wolverine.

X-Men #120 holds the first brief appearance of Alpha Flight, and it continues James Hudson's mission in bringing back Wolverine or Weapon X as they know him back to Canadian authorities. In this issue, The Guardian changed his name to Vindicator.

mycomicshop - Only one CGC 9.8 copy here at the time of this writing.

eBay - Plenty to choose from whether you prefer raw copies or prefer CGC graded copies. At least the selection is good at the time of this writing.

ComicLink - Only three CGC slabs in stock here. Highest is a 9.8 followed by an 8.5 VF+. Quite a few unslabbed copies to consider. Highest is a 9.0 VF/NM, and there are four of them currently.

ComicConnect - Only two CGC copies with the best being a 9.4 NM! Five unslabbed copies, and the two best are both 9.2 low NM comics.

THE X-MEN #121
First full appearance of Alpha Flight

X-Men #121 marks the first full appearance of Alpha Flight, and the two teams go at it in this issue while Alpha Flight tries to capture the rogue Wolverine and the X-Men battle to protect him. Classic X-Men key issue that's an often over-looked Wolverine key issue.

After all, Alpha Flight has become a team often linked to the X-Men bezerker, and quite a few tales regarding the Weapon X origin have become fan-favorites and extremely important stories regarding the character's past. So important that both X-Men and Wolverine movies have often referenced the Weapon X Program on screen.

This all stemmed from The Guardian (Vindicator) and the Alpha Flight team.

mycomicshop - At the time of this writing, loads of CGC copies here with one being a PGX graded slab. Three CGC 9.8s with two of them being Signature Series and one is double signed by Chris Claremont and Stan Lee. There's also three CGC 9.6s that are all Universal. Three 9.2s and one 9.4 NM. One of the 9.2s is a PGX.

eBay - Absolutely no problem finding this issue on eBay. Plenty of unslabbed and CGC comics on here at the moment.

ComicLink - Two CGC 9.8s and six CGC 9.6s! PGX 9.2 and a CGC 8.5 VF+ also present at the moment. One unslabbed 9.0 VF/NM copy in stock for the first appearance of Alpha Flight at ComicLink.

ComicConnect - Two CGC 9.4s and one 9.8. The other two are unslabbed copies, and one is a 9.4 NM.

THE X-MEN #139
New costume for Wolverine
First appearance of Heather Hudson
Here is the comic where Wolverine first gets a make over and a new costume. This costume is the famous brown and yellow one, and that was the costume Wolvie was wearing when I first started collecting the X-Men.

Not that many know this issue is when we first see the brown and yellow costume for the character. This issue is more well-known as when Kitty Pryde joins the X-Men team.

Also, the first appearance of Heather Hudson is in this issue. She is the wife of James Hudson, whom was formerly Vindicator and now the Guardian. Heather would assume the role of Vindicator and is a member of Alpha Flight. She is also linked to Wolverine's past and has a role in uncovering some mysterious secrets to his past.

That will be revealed in an issue later on this list. November, 1980 is the publishing date for this key Wolverine comic.

mycomicshop - One CGC 9.8 and it's the only slabbed one here at the moment. The rest are unslabbed copies. The highest is a 9.0 VF/NM and is on consignment, but the others are in stock at mycomicshop and the highest raw copy in stock is an 8.5 VF.

eBay - Plenty of options on the mighty eBay. Quite a few copies of this issue are in comic lots. No problem finding CGC comics of this issue also.

ComicLink - Four CGC copies to consider here. There's a stunning 9.8 and two 9.6 NM+ copies. Last is a 6.5 FN+, but it is a PGX slab. One raw 9.0 VF/NM also.

ComicConnect - Two CGC copies here only. Highest is a 9.6 and the other a 9.2 low NM! Three unslabbed copies for the taking with the highest grade being a 9.0 VF/NM and the lowest a FN.

No real problem finding any of these Wolverine key issues slabbed or unslabbed in Part 2 of this Wolverine key issue comics list. As mentioned before, most of these issues have been on other key issues lists before, most likely the X-Men key issues list that was previously done since these are all X-Men comics on Part 2. However, the same issues on that list were noted differently and most these keys on this list are noted specifically pertaining to Wolverine.

You can click the PREVIOUS link below if you stumbled upon Part 2 without getting a stab at Part 1 yet. Otherwise, Part 3 to this Wolverine key comics list is ready to slash on through in a bit, so just click the PART 3 link below to carry on. Thanks for reading!

Wolverine Key Issue Comics List

Due to a suggestion or a request by Hugh, here's a Wolverine key issue comics list. This list will be a bit more of an in-depth look at the keys specifically pertaining to Marvel's most popular mutie runt and will span across various titles as Wolverine did start out as a supporting character that spent most of his early comic career in the pages of the Uncanny X-Men.

Although there will be major important keys, there will also be some minor ones. I'm not going to list every single one as there are a boatload of unimportant key issues pertaining to Wolverine since he was pretty much used in everything when his character became extremely popular. Also, the first appearances of his rogues will be extremely limited as well in this key comics list, or I'll just pretty much be doing a second version of the X-Men key issues list.

This list will eventually lead to his self-titled series. I apologize in advance because many of these keys you've already seen on other key issues list on here, but some will be new as we further progress in this key comic list series.

INCREDIBLE HULK #180
  • First brief appearance of Wolverine
This bad boy has been mentioned on Total Comic Mayhem numerous times and for good reason. This comic was pretty much a back issue bargain for quite a long time until recent years when a big enough beef by fans brought to the attention that Wolverine is fully shown in the last panel of this comic.

The industry now recognizes Hulk #180 as the first brief appearance of Wolverine or 1st brief cameo even though there those out there that believe this should be Wolverine's full first appearance. In past very recent years, this key issue Wolverine comic has sky rocketed in demand and value and quite quickly as well. Much like Incredible Hulk 181, this comic is now one of the best Bronze Age comics to invest in and will pretty much remain so since fans just can't get enough of Logan.

Definitely a solid comic book investment, this is one every comic investing fan or Wolverine fan should be considering for sure.

mycomicshop - One CGC 9.4 NM copy that happens to be a Signature Series signed by Stan Lee. Three unslabbed copies available with the top one being a solid 6.0 FN.

eBay - No problem finding unslabbed copies here, and a pretty decent selection of CGC copies as well. A whopping CGC 9.8 is the highest here. Two 9.6s and a few 9.4 NM slabs at the time of this writing.

ComicLink - CGC copies available for snagging at ComicLink. Highest copy is only a VF/NM 9.0, though. 2nd copy is an 8.0 VF followed by a 7.5 low VF. No unslabbers of this issue here yet.

ComicConnect - Three CGC copies, two of them are high grade copies. The highest is a CGC 9.2 low NM and the second highest is an 8.0 VF. Third copy is a CGC 6.5 FN+ Signature Series signed by Herbe Trimpe. Two raw copies here as well. Highest is an 8.0 VF and the other copy is a VG/FN 5.0.

INCREDIBLE HULK #181
  • First full appearance of Wolverine
Here we are with the famous first full appearance of Wolverine and definitely one of the best Bronze Age comic investments out there to own. This investment comic has a solid track record and has been sought out and in-demand throughout the years. They really weren't kidding when they stated on the cover of Hulk #181, "The World's First and Greatest Canadian Super-Hero!"

Created by Len Wein, Roy Thomas, and designed by John Romita Sr., there's no doubt that Wolverine has become one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Universe as well as the X-Men comics. Incredible Hulk 181 is one of the most valuable and expensive comics from the Bronze Age in super high grades. I've mentioned this comic so many times on here that I'm just going to keep it short and leave it at that.

mycomicshop - Only two very low grade copies at the time of this writing. Highest is a 1.8 low GD. Other isn't worth mentioning, but peeps are bidding on it.

eBay - Absolutely no problem finding this super key issue comic on the mighty eBay at the moment. Quite a few unslabbed copies and quite a few CGC copies as well. Saw an 9.8 and 9.6 as well as other NM range options and mid to low grade CGC slabs also.

ComicLink - Quite a few options as expected for CGC copies, but no raw ones. A 9.4 NM is the highest one so far and the only copy in the NM range. 3 VF 8.0s and 3 in the low grade range.

ComicConnect - No shortage of copies here for the first full appearance of Wolverine. Highest copy is a CGC 9.8 that goes up for auction in August of this year. There's also a 9.6 NM+ and a PGX 9.9! Other CGC options as well and two unslabbed copies with the highest an 8.5 VF+.

INCREDIBLE HULK #182
  • Cameo of Wolverine
The industry recognizes this issue as simply a cameo, and I'm not entirely sure why they don't note it as the 2nd brief appearance of Wolverine. He is shown in this issue after all, and why the title isn't bestowed upon this issue has yet to be addressed by those who designate key issue statuses in the industry.

Regardless, this comic has seen growing demand as it is a very early appearance of the mutie runt, Wolverine. Hulk 182 has definitely and recently become a great comic book investment to snag and will probably remain so as the decades roll on by also.

mycomicshop - Three CGC 9.4 NM copies of this key issue located. One 9.2 low NM and a raw unslabbed copy at a FN 6.0 present for the meantime.

eBay - Another Wolverine key issue with a decent amount of options on eBay. A few raw copies available, but no trouble finding a CGC slab to snag. A beautiful 9.8 is present as well as 9.6 copies. Plenty of copies in the NM range to mid to low grades also.

ComicLink - Two CGC 9.2 low NMs and one of them was just recently listed. One unslabbed copy at a 7.5 low VF.

ComicConnect - Five copies here. Two copies are CGC graded. 9.6 NM+ is the highest followed by a 9.2 low NM. Three unslabbed copies at the time of this writing for sale here. Highest is a 9.4 NM followed by a 9.0 VF/NM. Lowest unslabber is a 6.5 FN+.

GIANT-SIZE X-MEN #1
  • 2nd full appearance of Wolverine
  • Wolverine joins X-Men team
Although this comic has a boatload of other important key issue statuses worth mentioning, this key comics list will only pertain to Wolverine and why it's a key issue for the most famous Canadian superhero in comics. Fair enough, right?

No doubt that Giant-Size X-Men #1 is another extremely important and sought after key issue, and it's one of the top Bronze Age key comic investments. Giant-Size X-Men #1 sees the 2nd full appearance of Wolverine as well as the character joining the X-Men team.

It would be this X-Men team that would catapult the mutant team into one of the most popular titles in the Marvel catalog, and it would be in the X-Men titled comics that Wolverine's popularity would flourish tremendously. Still a solid comic investing choice! Next year will mark this issue's 40th anniversary.

mycomicshop - CGC goodness is in attendance here for now. A high grade 9.0 VF/NM is the highest slabbed copy for now. A VF 8.0 is the second highest. Two unslabbed copies also on the menu if you could care less for slabbed comics.

eBay - This bad boy will be no problem finding here also. Plenty of unslabbed copies to choose from and a good selection of CGC slabs if you want to take the more sure route. Quite a few 9.8s on here and other high grade NM copies.

ComicLink - The folks at ComicLink provide the high grade CGC copies of this super key issue. Highest is a CGC 9.8 with quite a bit of others that fall in the NM range. There's also some lower  and mid grade copies if you're more on a budget. Lowest is a solid GD. No unslabbed copies yet.

X-MEN #94
  • 1st Wolverine in X-Men title series
Another huge Bronze Age key issue, and it's no surprise this Wolverine key is in another X-Men title. This is the first time the new team appears in the regular titled X-Men comic series, and also makes it the very first time Wolverine is in the comic series that made him immensely popular.

This early appearance of Wolverine in X-Men #95 is a solid comic investment and has been so for quite a few decades. Extremely sought out through the years and extremely valuable as well in higher grades. Definitely one of the top ten Bronze Age comics to invest in. Publishing date is August, 1975.

mycomicshop - Seven copies here, all are on consignment and only one is a raw unslabbed copy. A decent 8.5 VF+ is the top grade so far with an 8.0 VF coming in a close second. Two PGX 7.0 copies available. Raw copy is a FN.

eBay - Not disappointing here! Great selection of both raw and slabbed copies for this super key issue. Pretty decent selection of CGC slabs but no 9.8s at the moment. Highest is a 9.6 and only one. Most seem to be 8.0 for CGC.

ComicConnect - Quite a few CGC copies here. Some are under the Modern label which is a bit strange. Highest here is 9.8. Only two unslabbed copies at the time of this writing.

ComicLink - No problem finding CGC copies for this super key here also. Highest is a 9.6 NM+ and there are two copies, one being a PGX. Two 9.4 NM slabs as well as two 9.2 low NM. Plenty to consider at the time of this writing.

X-MEN #95
  • 2nd Wolverine in X-Men titled series
Strangely only toted for the death of Thunderbird, X-Men #95 is often overlooked as the 2nd time Wolverine appears in the X-Men titled series. As it is the 2nd time Wolverine appears in this comic series, it's also the 2nd time the new team of Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Banshee and Thunderbird also appears in the X-Men titled comics as well.

This is one I would definitely say is quite under-valued, especially in 9.6 NM+ grades. Like I mentioned, quite one of the most over-looked Wolverine key issues out there, and should be a great investment comic in the near future.

mycomicshop - All are CGC copies as of this writing with the highest being an awesome 9.8! Four 9.4 NM slabs available as well, in which two are Signature Series. Both are signed by Stan Lee, but one is double signed with Chris Claremont. Two 9.2 low NMs for sale also. Nothing but high grade copies present at the moment.

eBay - Quite a few high grade CGC copies for this issue. One 9.8 and a few 9.6s and 9.4s available as of this writing. Some unslabbed, raw copies to browse through also.

ComicLink - A few copies here so far. Most are CGC slabs and the highest are two 9.4 NMs. Also a 9.0 VF/NM, and the lowest slabbed copy is a 5.0 VG/FN. One raw unslabbed copy at a 7.0 FN/VF.

ComicConnect - Three CGC copies and three raw copies in stock at ComicConnect. Highest CGC copy is a 9.4 NM. Highest raw copy is a 9.2 low NM. All high grade copies here so far.

As expected, no problem finding CGC copies for these early key issue Wolverine comics. Raw copies a different story. Most of these are well-known and all in Part 1 are super key comic investments and many are some of the best bronze age comics to invest in. Many are already pretty up there in price. Snikt! Snakt! Ka-ching!

Part 2 to this Wolverine key issues list is ready so just click the link below for more bezerker madness! See you at Part 2, Bub!
