The Ultimate Green Lantern Key Comics Part 11

We are fast coming up near of the Bronze Age Green Lantern key issues for this ultimate list. Still a few more Bronze Age keys but not many left.

If you're looking for cheaper key issues to snag, Part 11 definitely has some. Actually, all of them are pretty much so, but there is one or two definitely worth considering as well. Don't expect too many CGC options for the keys listed here for sure. Many, if not all, aren't very sought after.

So here's Part 11 to this Green Lantern key comics list. If you missed Part 10, you know what to do. Just click the link to go back, or not if you're ready to continue on. Enjoy and thanks for reading. Hope this helps you in your hunt.

Last Green Lantern/Green Arrow team up

All good things have to come to an end, and Green Lantern #122 is the last Green Lantern and Green Arrow team up within the volume 2 series. The next issue would see Hal Jordan going solo once again.

Not really key worthy or anything, but this issue also establishes Thomas Kalmaku no longer wishing to be addressed by his nickname Pie Face. Thought to be dead, Hal Jordan actually discovers that Guy Gardner is actually in the Phantom Zone and has aligned himself with General Zod.

November, 1979 was when this issue was published.

eBay - Some options for raw copies, but no CGC located on eBay just yet. There's a NM+ raw copy advertised and a few others toting the NM range for this key so far here.

mycomicshop - Two copies in stock for this key issue and they are a FN and a low FN.

NewKadia - Four copies here for now. Highest two copies are a NM and low VF. Last two options are a FN+ and a low FN.

ComicConnect - Two copies here and they are a CGC 9.6 NM+ and a raw low NM.

ComicLink - CGC NM+ and a CGC 9.4 NM are the only two copies of this key issue at ComicLink for now.

2nd appearance of Guy Gardner as a Green Lantern
Back to solo Green Lantern

In this issue we find out that Sinestro was controlling Guy Gardner into being an evil version of himself. Not technically sure why this is considered the 2nd appearance of Guy Gardner as a Green Lantern since he was in issue #122.

Guess it has to do with him not being evil or being broken away from Sinestro's control in this issue? Who knows? Guide notes it as a key issue, and it is a little more valuable than other Bronze Age Green Lantern key issues. So, I'll note it here in this list. Besides, it is the first comic where Green Lantern goes solo and no more Green Arrow in the title of the comic. December, 1979 was when this issue was published.

eBay - Quite a few raw copies for this key issue on the mighty eBay. Shouldn't be hard finding a high grade copy. CGC is a different story. Definitely will be a hunt for high grade CGC copies.

mycomicshop - Only a FN and low FN here as well for this key Green Lantern issue, but they are in stock and not on consignment.

NewKadia - Four copies here with the highest being a NM. 2nd highest is a VF+. Other two copies are a VF and a low FN.

First appearance of The Citadel

Conquerors of twenty one of the twenty two known worlds in the Vega system, the Citadel are a fascist star empire comprised of beings that are all clones of the Citadelian progenito.

Their first appearance is in Green Lantern #137 and are pretty important characters when it comes to the Omega Men mythos. Definitely a sleeper, but if Warner Bros. ever decides to do an Omega Men movie, you can bet the Citadel will be in it. This comic was published February, 1981.

eBay - No CGC as expected but a few raw copies to choose from for now.

mycomicshop - Two copies in stock here and the highest is a VF. 2nd and last option is a FN.

NewKadia - A handful of copies here at the moment. Highest three copies are a NM, a VF+, and a VF. Other two grades are a low VF and a FN+.

ComicConnect - Only one raw NM copy here for now.

1st issue to limited series
First appearance of Apros, Arisia and Brok
First appearance of Gk'd, K'yrssma, and Skryd
Expanding even more on the Green Lantern mythos and cast of characters, the spin off limited series Tales of the Green Lantern Corps #1 marks the first appearance and several first appearances as well in the #1 issue.

Arisia Rrab is a Green Lantern from Graxos IV and protector of Sector 2815. Her father was also a Green Lantern of the sector before her, and Arisia took her father's place in her teens. She had an intimate relationship with Hal Jordan for a while as well.

Apros is one of the oldest and seasoned veterans in the Green Lantern Corps and also one of the most decorated. It was also once an honored member of the Green Lantern Corps Honored Guard who protected the Guardians of the Universe. Apros is a plant-like being and has psionic abilities.

Brok is like an ambulance that transports injured Green Lanterns from the battle to receive medical attention, and Gk'd is an evaluator of the Guardians who evaluates substandard abilities of Green Lanterns. Gk'd dislikes the Green Lanterns from Earth as they continually keep Gk'd from completing a full evaluation of their abilities.

This issue also sees the first appearance of Skryd, a Green Lantern whom devoted his allegiance to Tomar-Re after being revived by the legendary Green Lantern. Definitely a sleeper key issue with a lot of first appearances. Tales of the Green Lantern #1 was published May, 1981 and the series would have 3 issues.

eBay - Seems to be quite a few copies here at the moment. Mostly raw, unslabbed comics, but I did see a CGC 9.8 for under $60 at the time of this writing. Only one CGC copy so far and inexpensive in terms of super high grade CGC prices.

mycomicshop - VF and FN copy are in stock at mycomicshop at the time of this writing.

NewKadia - Three high grade copies for this one here. Highest is a low NM, second highest is a VF+, and the last option is a VF.

ComicConnect - Three options here. All are raw and two are a NM+ and a VF/NM. Last option is in a comic lot and has the complete run if you're into those.

First appearance of Omega Men

The adventure in Green Lantern #141 sees the first appearance of the Omega Men. All the characters in this incarnation of the Omega Men have their first appearance in this comic.

Another creation by legendary Marv Wolfman, whom I've mentioned quite a bit when it comes to the DC key issues lists here on Total Comic Mayhem, the Omega Men are a group of superheroes from the Vegan system, the one where the Citadel ruled most of the known system.

The Omega Men are led by Primus and were formed from the various Citadel ruled planets to fight against them. The Vegan system is one that the Guardians of the Universe and the Green Lantern Corps are forbidden to enter.

Members of the Omega Men that make their first appearance in this issue are Primus, his eventual wife Kalista, the sisters Harpis and Demonia, the super strong Broot, and Nimbus. The 2nd appearance of the Omega Men would be in the next issue Green Lantern #142, and their regular titled series would have the first appearance of Lobo in it.

This key issue is a sleeper and hugely inexpensive to snag. It was published July, 1981.

eBay - Few copies here but selection is a bit limited. Surprised that there are no CGC copies for this key issue yet. Talk about under the radar for the first appearance of the Omega Men.

mycomicshop - Only two raw copies here for now as well. Top grade is a FN/VF followed by a low FN. Both are in stock.

NewKadia - Low NM and a VF are the top copies here for this key. Last and lowest option is a FN+. All copies are extremely affordable.

ComicLink - One CGC 9.6 NM+ copy here only.

Origin of Evil Star

The origin of Evil Star is finally revealed in this issue. Not a particularly major key issue, and regarded as pretty minor. At least it is for now. It was published December, 1982, making Green Lantern #159 a Bronze Age key issue.

Probably a sleeper, and for good reason. If you're a Green Lantern fan and looking for cheap key issues, this one is definitely one of them.

eBay - No CGC copies for this key on the mighty eBay just yet. There are a few raw copies to browse through or snag. Pretty inexpensive key issue as expected for now.

mycomicshop - Only one VF copy here at the moment. It is a raw copy and is in stock.

NewKadia - Three copies here, two are high grade and all affordable. NM and VF are the highest with the lowest being a low VF.

Well, as I said at the beginning of this post, these Green Lantern keys listed in Part 11 are pretty much over-looked and not very sought after. 2nd appearance of Guy Gardner as a Green Lantern in Green Lantern #23 and the first appearance of the Omega Men in issue #141 are probably the only two really worth snagging. Both are pretty cheap in the current market.

Damn, we haven't even reached the Copper Age yet. In case you missed Part 10, you can click the PREVIOUS link below to go back. Click the Part 12 link below to continue with this Ultimate Green Lantern key issues list. I should've called this the Monster Green Lantern key issues list instead.
