Inhumans Key Issues

Well, since I did a consolidated Black Panther key issues list, I may as do one for the Inhumans. Most of these Inhuman key issues can be found in the Fantastic Four and Thor key comics list previously done.

Like the Black Panther key issues list, this one will also start off with solid comic investment bets. Depending on how long you've been reading Total Comic Mayhem, you'd have probably seen many of these before on here.

As we venture further into the list, it will become more speculative as it will be more unsure whether certain characters or villains will show up in the movie or later sequels. The later parts to this keys list will have Modern Age keys pertaining to the Inhumans.

First appearance of Medusa
First appearance of Frightful Four

Well, here we are again with this issue. Mentioned plenty of times already on here, but it does hold the first appearance of Medusa, who would later become queen and wife to Black Bolt of the royal family.

This comic has already seen a boost in demand from rumors of the Inhumans movie. Now with confirmation, it probably has gotten more juice.

Aside from the first appearance of Medusa, this issue holds the first appearance of the frightful four as well. March, 1965 was when these Marvel first appearances was published.

eBay - A few raw copies but mostly in the lower grade. A few CGC copies as well. Highest is a 9.2 low NM that ends today (at the time of this writing). There is an 8.0 CGC Signature Series. Pretty scarce on the slabbed front for this issue.

mycomicshop - Four raw copies and all are consignment. They all happen to be lower grade as well with the highest a VG+.

2nd appearance of Medusa
2nd appearance of Frightful Four
The 2nd appearance of Medusa and the Frightful Four in Fantastic Four #38 has seen a slight push in demand as well. Probably since Medusa's first appearance is already up there in price.

Still, a key Inhumans comic for those on the hunt for them. Believe this too was on the Fantastic Four key issues list. This comic was published May, 1965.

eBay - No problem finding raw copies for his one on the mighty eBay. About 6 CGC copies at the moment. Highest is a CGC 9.2 and 2nd highest is an 8.5.

mycomicshop - All raw copies here with the highest a VG+. Two are on consignment and four are in stock. They are all low grade copies.

ComicConnect - CGC 9.2 low NM copy here and a few other raw copies. Highest raw copy is a 5.5 low FN.

ComicLink - Two CGC copies and both are 7.5 low VFs. There are a few raw copies available for this issue as well at ComicLink at the moment.

First appearance of Gorgon

I already got me a copy of this over-looked Inhumans key issue, and believe it or not, it's still being somewhat over-looked in the market currently for the first appearance of Gorgon.

Gorgon is part of the Inhumans royal family and has more of the temper in the group. He is the 2nd character to be introduced outside of the Inhumans' first appearance as a group.

Will see how this key issue fairs in the coming years when more news is dropped about the Inhumans movie cast. First appearance of Gorgon was published November, 1965.

eBay - No problem finding raw copies of this key issue at the moment. High grade CGC 9.6 has been located at the time of this writing, but less than a handful of high grade slabbed copies in the NM range though.

mycomicshop - Nothing but low grade unslabbed copies here at the time of this writing. Most are in stock though.

ComicConnect - Two CGC copies and two raw copies here. The slabbed copies are a 9.4 NM and a 9.2 low NM. Highest raw copy is a 5.5 low FN.

ComicLink - Three CGC copies and the highest is a 9.4 NM. Second highest available is an 8.5 VF+ for slabbed copies. There are raw copies as well, and the highest are two VF/NMs.

First appearance of Inhumans
2nd appearance of Gorgon
Here's the holy grail of Inhumans key issues so far, and no doubt that Fantastic Four #45 was skyrocketing just on the rumors alone. We have the first appearance of the Inhumans' royal family in this issue and with confirmation of the actual movie set for 2018, demand for this comic won't be slowing down anytime soon.

As first appearances go, this issue marks the first appearance of Crystal, Lockjaw, Karnak, and Triton. This issue also has an appearance of Blackbolt, but it's not considered his first full appearance for some reason.

I suppose this could be considered the 2nd appearance of Gorgon. Crystal is the sister of Medusa and Gorgon is their cousin. Karnak and Triton are brothers and cousin to Black Bolt. Lockjaw is the royal family's bulldog that serves as a transporter for the group. December, 1965 was when this important first appearance was published.

eBay - Plenty of unslabbed copies here as well. Most are probably in the lower grade to mid-grade. A little more than a handful of slabbed copies, mostly CGC, a tiny few PGX. Highest so far are 9.2s, and they are already past the $3000 mark.

mycomicshop - Only three copies here and one is a CGC 8.0 Signature Series signed by Stan Lee. Other two are unslabbed low grade copies. All are on consignment.

First full appearance of Blackbolt
First appearance of the Seeker
Partial origin of Inhumans
1st Blackbolt cover
2nd appearance of Inhumans
Quite a bit going on here concerning key issue goodness. In the industry, Fantastic Four #46 is considered the first full appearance of Black Bolt. No clue as to why #44 isn't considered such.

It is apparent that the cover is the first to feature Black Bolt on it, and this issue covers a freeze dried and partial origin to the Inhumans. Fantastic Four #46 is the 2nd appearance of the Inhumans as well.

Right now this key is also highly sought after and may be reaching the crazy status of being out of reach for most concerning high grade copies. This Inhumans key issue was published January, 1966, and it is on the hot burner now.

eBay - Tons of raw copies here so no problem snagging up one of those. Concerning CGC or slabbed copies, there's only a few on here at the moment. Highest is a CGC 9.2 low NM. There is a 7.0 VF/NM CBCS and a 5.5 PGX.

mycomicshop - All raw copies here and the highest is a FN/VF. Other copies are extremely low grade.

ComicConnect - VF raw copy here. Only copy available so far.

ComicLink - Only one copy here available at the moment and it's a CGC 8.0 VF.

First appearance of Maximus
First appearance of Alpha Primitives
First appearance of Attilan
2nd Black Bolt
3rd Inhumans appearance
This one is definitely getting more play in the market right now for one simple reason - first appearance of Maximus, who is high on the speculation list of being a possible villain for the Inhumans in either the first flick or a later flick. I'm guessing strongly the first flick.

He will definitely be introduced for sure, as he is the brother of Blackbolt and a notable baddie for the Inhumans royal family. He often tries to overthrow Black Bolt on several occasions. Maximus is also known as Maximus the Mad. CGC 9.4s are selling about $200 more than the first appearance of Gorgon in Fantastic Four #44 right now.

Also, this issue has the first appearance of the Alpha Primitives, which I'm pretty sure will have a role in the movie. They are the servants to the Inhumans. Maximus would even use the Alpha Primitives to help him conquer Attilan, which this issue also sees the first appearance of the Inhumans' city.

We'll get more into how Maximus uses the Alpha Primitives to overthrow Black Bolt in later parts of this key issues list. February, 1966 is the publishing date for this comic.

eBay - No scarcity on the low grade unslabbed selection. High grade copies or slabbed copies are pretty much non-existent at the time of this writing. Market has yet to fully catch on to the importance this key issue may be in the future.

mycomicshop - No CGC here. Just two low grade raw copies. Highest is a VG/FN.

Concerning what key issues are going up or may go up as more news surfaces for the Inhumans movie or movies comes about, most of these issues have a good chance of seeing a push in demand sooner or later if they haven't already gotten it.

Three Inhumans key issues in Part 1 are already on the hot burner. The first appearance of Medusa just recently became a hot key about a month or two ago. The other two have been hot since the rumor mill...and it's been a long time the Inhumans were on the rumor mill for a movie.

Part 2 of this list will start digging into some important key Inhumans comics that are being over-looked in the market for the meantime. There are some really good Silver Age keys to consider in that part, so click the CONTINUE TO PART 2 link below to discover those.
