The Definitive Fantastic Four Key Comics List Part 11

Part 10 to this Fantastic Four key comics list, and we're in the Copper Age. Much like the Bronze Age, there aren't that many Fantastic Four key issues worth noting. There are a few, and some you may want to consider. Don't expect a lot of CGC copies to found as of now for these key comics. Not many are worth even sending in to submit at the moment.

If you missed the previous post, just click this Part 10 link to go back for those FF keys. If you're already on the ball, here's Part 11 for ya.

4rth appearance of Spidey's alien costume

So much for saving this issue for the Venom key issue list, but, oh well. Here's the 4rth appearance of Spidey's alien symbiote costume, other wise just known as the black costume. At least, that's what Overstreet Guide is noting this as.

So, if you're looking for Venom key issues, this is one and will probably be listed again when I do the Venom list. That's if I ever finish this Fantastic Four key issues list. January, 1985 is when this Copper Age comic was published.

eBay - Only one CGC 9.8 copy found among quite a few raw copies on the mighty eBay for now.

mycomicshop - Only two raw copies for sale as of yet. They are a VF and FN.

NewKadia - Three copies in stock here. Low NM is the highest grade and a VF is the lowest for now.

Return of Jean Grey

Of course, Jean Grey comes back from her supposed death, and in this issue, the Fantastic Four recover a capsule that resides at the bottom of Jamaica Bay. They then discover that the body of Jean Grey is inside. They do not realize who the person is until she starts displaying her powers by levitating objects all over the room.

Jean suddenly breaks free of the capsule and has a run-in with the FF and Captain America before she finally calmed down and brought to her senses. This return of Jean Grey would set up the birth of X-Factor, and this story is continued in X-Factor #1.

eBay - Only one CGC copy here for this issue as well at the moment, but it is a CGC 9.8. It does not look like the same copy at mycomicshop.

mycomicshop - Finally, mycomicshop brings the CGC goodness. Only one copy though, but it is a CGC 9.8 super high grade slab. Other two in stock are a raw VF and a raw FN.

NewKadia - Five copies here in stock so far with the highest a low NM. 2nd highest is a VF+, and the lowest is a FN+.

Johnny Storm & Alicia Masters wed

Yep, Johnny Storm and Alicia Masters end up falling in love and tying the knot in this issue. The villains who plan to thwart the wedding this time? Well, it's none other than daddy Puppet Master, the Thinker, and the Wizard.

Don't see why Puppet Master was all pissed about Alicia Masters marrying one of his foes, because it was later written that this Alicia Master was actually a Skrull. March, 1987 is the publishing date for this comic.

eBay - One CGC copy here at the moment, and it is a super high grade 9.8 slab with WHITE pages if that's what you prefer. Plenty of raw copies it appears also.

mycomicshop - Three unslabbed copies in stock at mycomicshop for now. There's a NM, a VF, and a FN waiting to get snagged.

NewKadia - Only three copies for sale at the moment. Highest is a low NM.

First appearance of Maya
New team begins

Of course, since Luna is part of the royal family of Inhumans, she gets a guardian and nanny as well, especially if Franklin Richards had one. Well, unlike Franklin Richards, Maya is also an Inhuman and her first appearance is in this issue.

Also, this is where the new team begins since Crystal joins the FF once again in the previous issue #305. September, 1987 is when this Copper Age key issue was published.

eBay - 9.8 Signature Series is the only CGC or slabbed copy on eBay for now. Signed by Stan Lee of course. Decent selection of raw copies though.

mycomicshop - Only two raw copies in stock here, and they are a VF and FN.

NewKadia - Four copies for sale here at the moment. A low NM copy is the top one so far, and there are two in the VF range. Last option is a FN+.

Sharon Ventura as Ms. Marvel joins
Origin of Diablo
Sharon Ventura is the second character to take the name of Ms. Marvel, but there's nothing cosmic about her like Carol Danvers yet. In fact, she received strength augmentations from the Power Brokers so she could join the Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation along with the Thing.

Finally, in this issue the origin of Diablo is finally revealed, and Ms. Marvel joins the Fantastic Four. The team consists of The Thing, Human Torch, Crystal, and Ms. Marvel.

eBay - Another CGC 9.8 Signature Series copy signed by Stan Lee for this issue as well on eBay. Only slabbed copy here so far, but there are raw copies to consider.

mycomicshop - Unslabbed VF and FN copies are the only ones available at the time of this writing.

NewKadia - All five copies of this issue here are in the NM to VF grade range. NM is the top grade at the moment and low VF is the lowest copy available.

Thing further mutated
Ms. Marvel becomes She-Thing
First appearance of She-Thing

I remember this issue quite well as a kid and collecting the FF. I remember thinking the cover was just awesome, but upon first seeing it, I definitely had a WTF moment.

What happened to the Thing, I remember thinking and grabbing this issue off the rack. Well, the Thing gets bombarded again by cosmic rays and mutates again, making him even more stronger than before. Ms. Marvel, Sharon Ventura, also gets bombarded by cosmic rays and mutates into the female version of the Thing. To comic fans, the character would be known later as She-Thing instead of Ms. Marvel. Naturally, the Thing and She-Thing would develop a romance together.

Still have this comic, and even though it's not exactly a top pick for an investment comic, it's a pretty good key issue, a good read, and one of my favorite comic covers from the era.

eBay - CGC 9.8 Signature Series signed by Stan Lee is the top and only graded slab on eBay at the moment. Raw copies also available for this issue.

mycomicshop - Only one VF unslabbed copy in stock here at the moment.

NewKadia - NM is the top grade out of the three copies available for sale here. Also a low NM and a VF+ in stock as well.

Alrighty, we got one more part to go to complete this Fantastic Four key comics list. I was a bit surprised to actually locate some CGC copies for the issues in this post to be honest. However, most on this list are pretty much minor keys as you can well see, but some are worth considering if you're a fan of the Fantastic Four.

As promised, Part 12 consists of the Fantastic Four annuals, and we'll be getting back to some good ole Silver Age solid investment comics. Part 12 is ready so just click the link below to discover more Fantastic Four key issues.

Click the PREVIOUS link below if you missed Part 10.
