Iron Fist Key Comics Part Three

Kickin' ass with Part 3 to this Iron Fist key comics list. Plenty of key issue Iron Fist comics in this episode. Most aren't that well-known with one exception. Still, most are pretty much worth considering.

You can click this Part 2 link if you stumbled upon this post before reading the previous one. Lots of good key issues in Part 2 concerning Iron Fist in that one also. If you've been reading along without missing a beat, carry on and hope this helps you in your comic investing hunt.

Iron Fist #6

First appearance of Jeryn Hogarth

Although he may sound like a minor character, Jeryn Hogarth actually isn't. Hogarth ends up becoming the lawyer and legal representation for Heroes for Hire.

In this issue, however, Hogarth is a friend of Danny's father and an ally to Misty Knight and Colleen Wing. Iron Fist #5 marks the first appearance of Jeryn Hogarth. This issue was published August, 1976

eBay - Decent selection for unslabbed copies, but only two copies so far for CGC. Both are 7.5 low VFs, but one is the 30 cent price variant.

mycomicshop - Quite a few copies but only one graded copy. Graded copy is a PGX, but it is a 9.8. The highest unslabbed copies are two VF 8.0s.

ComicConnect - One CGC 7.5 low VF copy. Also one raw copy available as well. Raw copy is an 8.5 VF+.

ComicLink - Two CGC copies here. Both are the 30 cent price variant. First one is an 8.5 VF+. The other one is a low VF 7.5.

The Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #32
First Daughters of the Dragon

The duo of Misty Knight and Collen Wing as a team called Daughters of the Dragon are first seen in this Black and White magazine comic The Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #32. The team would become an important supporting cast for Iron Fist stories, and was created by none other than Chris Claremont and John Byrne.

However, this issue is not the first time this team up was named. That would come later in an issue that's on this Iron Fist key comics list. January, 1977 was when this issue was published.

eBay - Limited selection so far for unslabbed copies. No CGC at the time of this writing.

mycomicshop - One unslabbed FN+ 6.5 copy here as of this writing. No CGC yet.

IRON FIST #14
First appearance of Sabretooth

Before Sabretooth was a well-known and popular villain of the X-Men and Wolverine, Sabretooth was a villain for Iron Fist. Iron Fist #14 sees the first appearance of Sabretooth, and it's no surprise that the character was created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne.

Actually, many of Sabretooth's early appearances will be tied to Iron Fist, as you'll soon see in this Iron Fist key comics list. Another super key issue from the Bronze Age, this is a definite investment comic and is quite a chunk of change in high grade NM. August, 1977 is the publication date for this Marvel key comic.

eBay - No problem finding this highly sought after key issue on the mighty eBay. Plenty of CGC copies. Highest is are three 9.8 copies.

mycomicshop - Six graded copies at the moment. Two CGC 9.6s. One of the 9.6s is a Signature Series signed by Stan Lee. Second highest is a 9.4, also a Signature Series signed by Stan Lee. Other two are a 9.0 and an 8.0. There's another PGX 8.0 VF also.

ComicConnect - Only CGC copies here at the moment. Highest are a 9.8 and 9.6. There's also two 9.4s as well.

ComicLink - No problem finding CGC copies here for this first appearance of Sabretooth at ComicLink. Tons of options. Highest copies are three 9.8s. Second highest are two 9.6s.

IRON FIST #15
Last issue to series
First appearance of Bushmaster

Looks like those at Marvel Comics jumped the gun a bit giving Iron Fist his own titled series after his tryout run in Marvel Premiere. Due to poor sales, this series ends at issue #15, which is pretty sad.

The first appearance of Bushmaster is in this issue as well. Bushmaster is John McIver, a powerful crime boss who had a thing for Misty Knight. He would also be a villain connected to Luke Cage as well.

Much of Iron Fist's comic career would then be as a supporting character, but the dynamic creative team up of Chris Claremont and John Byrne would continue on. This issue was published September, 1977.

eBay - Quite a few options for CGC copies. Highest are 9.6s.

mycomicshop - Two CGC copies here at the time of this writing. Highest is a CGC 9.6 Signature Series double signed by Chris Claremont and Stan Lee. The second copy is a regular Universal 9.0.

ComicConnect - Only three unslabbed, raw copies available at the moment. Highest copy is a low NM 9.2. Other two copies are both VF/NM 9.0s.

ComicLink - Three copies here. One is a raw, unslabbed copy at a 9.0 VF/NM. If you prefer CGC, the other two are. Gorgeous 9.6 NM+ CGC copy is the highest. The other option is a low VF 7.5 CGC.

Marvel Team Up #63
2nd appearance of Bushmaster
First Iron Fist in titled series

Finishing up the story arc, Iron Fist would make his way in the pages of Marvel Team Up #63 shortly after his own titled was cancelled. This transition would only last a mere two issues.

Not that well-known a key issue, but important to the Iron Fist mythos. This issue wraps up the Iron Fist/Steel Serpent conflict and plot threads that were established in Iron Fist #15. Issue was published November, 1977.

eBay - No problem finding unslabbed copies here at the moment. Only one CGC 9.6 though.

mycomicshop - Two unslabbed copies in stock. Low VF 7.5 is the highest one with a low GD being the lowest.

ComicLink - Two CGC copies here at the moment. A beautiful 9.8 awaits. Second option is a gorgeous NM 9.4

MARVEL TEAM UP #64

Death of Steel Serpent

One of Iron Fist's most deadly enemies and arch nemesis bites the dust in this issue. Yep, this issue sees the death of Steel Serpent, otherwise known as Davos.

Appearances of the Daughters of the Dragon and Spider-Man, this is not a well-known key issue. It is the first time the team of Colleen Wing and Misty Knight are named Daughters of the Dragon, which was actually a tongue-in-cheek slight from Davos. Still a bronze age key comic sleeper, this issue was published December, 1977.

eBay - Plenty of unslabbed copies at the time of this writing on the mighty eBay. No CGCs at the moment, though.

mycomicshop - Four copies here. All are unslabbed and the highest is only a FN 6.0. Second highest is a low FN 5.5.

ComicLink - Two CGC copies available at the time of this writing. Gorgeous 9.6 and 9.4 for the taking. Both are regular Universals.
