Green Arrow Key Comic Books Part 8

We are leaving the Copper Age Green Arrow key issues and heading into Modern Age key comic books. Don't be dissuaded, however. Some of the Modern Age keys in Part 8 are on the rise, and some of them will cost a bit for CGC 9.8s. That's if you can find CGC copies.

Some will be hard to hunt down online, because some places don't deal with most comics post 1975 to 1980. This is slowly starting to change, however.

If you stumbled upon this before reading Part 7, I recommend you click this Part 7 link, read that up, and come back to this post after. If you're ready for Part 8 to this Green Arrow keys list, continue onward and thanks for reading.

Green Arrow #1 Volume 2
  • First issue to first on-going series
Finally, after 47 years, Green Arrow gets his first on-going series. Wow!

Of course, Mike Grell takes the helm to launch Green Arrow's first self-titled on-going series. A pretty momentous and landmark issue for the Emerald Liberal Archer  not only because he got his own series but Grell took the character in a new direction. In this series, he completely took Green Arrow away from the superhero world of DC Comics.

This issue was published February, 1988, and it's becoming pretty sought out since Arrow the television show.

eBay - Surprisingly not that many copies, even raw copies. No CGC for this issue at the moment.

NewKadia - Only two raw copies here available. One is toted as a solid NM and the other a low NM.

ComicConnect - CGC 9.8 copy located here. Also a few raw copies available.

ComicLink - CGC 9.8 copy located here also.

Green Arrow #80 Volume 2
  • Last Mike Grell on Green Arrow
Everything good comes to an end sometime, and Mike Grell leaves the series with this issue. This issue would mark important changes for the character of Green Arrow. Shortly after Grell leaves, the character would quickly be written back into playing a larger part in the superhero world again.

Green Arrow would also begin appearing as a guest regularly in other superhero titles post Grell. This issue was published November, 1993.

eBay - Extremely limited selection, even for raw copies. No CGC at the time of this writing.

mycomicshop - Only one copy here and it's an unslabbed VF.

NewKadia - Only one copy here and it's a NM+.

Green Arrow #0 Volume 2
  • First appearance of Conner Hawke
Here's the first appearance of Conner Hawke and many comic fans are suspecting that Conner Hawke will be making an onscreen appearance on the television show, possibly in season three that will air from 2014-2015. This may be a Modern Age comic to start considering gunning for and quite soon.

As comic fans know, Conner Hawke is the second Green Arrow and was created by Kelly Puckett and Jim Aparo. He is one of the few bi-racial comic characters in the DCU, as his mother was half Black and half Korean. This issue was published October, 1994.

Still very much a sleeper key comic and cheap.

eBay - Only unslabbed copies for this key issue. No CGC as of yet. May change once you read this or not.

NewKadia - Four copies in stock. Highest is a low NM with the second highest a VF+. Rest of the copies are in the VF range. Super cheap and affordable.

Green Arrow #91
  • First Sandra Moonday Hawke
Actually, this first appearance of Sandra Hawke is of a photograph of her, but industry considers this the first appearance of the character. Of course, it's revealed that Sandra Hawke is an old girlfriend of Oliver Queen during his college days and the mother of Conner Hawke.

Sandra Moonday Hawke was also created by Kelly Puckett and Jim Aparo. This issue was published November, 1994.

eBay - Still very much a sleeper. A few unslabbed options on the mighty eBay. No CGC just yet.

mycomicshop - Still no CGC yet, but there are two unslabbed copies. Highest is a NM copy.

NewKadia - Two unslabbed copies. One is a solid NM and the other is a low NM.

Green Arrow #96
  • Intro new Force of July
  • Oliver learns Conner is his son
Uh-oh, the truth comes out and it's revealed in this issue that Conner Hawke is in fact Oliver Queen's son. If that one wasn't hard to figure out.

On top of that, Green Arrow meets the new Force of July. Instead of patriotic extremists that happen to be Metahumans (super powered beings in the DC Comics Universe), the new Force of July were just human government agents that like to give superheroes grief. This issue was published in April of 1995.

eBay - Only a few raw copies available, but there is a CGC graded copy. The CGC copy is a 9.8 and can be snagged for under the $50 mark. Only one graded copy at the time of this writing.

mycomicshop - Plenty of unslabbed copies. Highest are two VF+ 8.5s. Three other raw copies available as well so far.

NewKadia - One NM copy here. Extremely cheap.

Green Arrow #101
  • Death of Oliver Queen
Yes, it's true. They actually did kill off the character of Oliver Queen in this issue. The story line actually begins in issue #100. This is how Conner Hawke follows in daddy's footsteps and takes up the mantle of Green Arrow.

This is pretty well-known comic and already commanding some bucks for NM unslabbed copies. Written by Chuck Dixon, this Green Arrow key issue hit the market October, 1995.

eBay - Only a few unslabbed copies here at the moment. No CGC, but raw copies

mycomicshop - Only one raw copy that's a VF/NM 9.0.

Well, it seems like there's mostly raw copies for these issues as expected for these Modern Age Green Arrow key comic books. Probably be a good thing to rummage through some back issue bins at your local comic shop as well.

Surprisingly some of these issues are in demand and are already getting up there in price, but not too ridiculous. Season 3 of Arrow just may make some of these issues hot.
