Brave and the Bold Key Issue Comics Part 2

This is Part 2 to the Brave and the Bold key issue comics list. Some more heavy hitter DC Comics key issues, as well as some great first appearances featured in Part 2.

If you missed Part 1, just click the link to teleport back to check that out. If you already whipped through that one, enjoy more DC Comics key issue goodness in Part 2.

The Brave and the Bold #29
  • 2nd appearance of Justice League of America
This Brave and the Bold key issue was just recently on the Justice League of America key comics list published only a few days ago, and it marks the 2nd appearance of the famed and most popular DC Comics superhero team. Probably one of the most recognized superhero teams in the world of comics.

Definitely a key to consider out of the Brave and the Bold comic series, especially if you can't afford the first appearance of the Justice League of America. Although much cheaper, this comic is still pretty expensive, but is a solid investment comic to invest in from DC Comics silver age.

This issue was published May, 1960.

mycomicshop - Two graded copies here. One is a PGX 5.0 and the other a CGC VG+ 4.5. There are raw copies here but in the very low grade range. Highest is a low VG.

ComicConnect - Three copies here. One is a CGC 5.0. Other two are lower grade raw copies.

eBay - Quite a few raw and slabbed copies. Highest CGC is a 7.0 for this book. Two graded 6.0s and 4.5s. This issue is already getting expensive. A few raw copies to consider as well, mostly in the low grade range.

The Brave and the Bold #30
  • 3rd appearance of Justice League of America
Since 2nd and 3rd appearances are getting quite sought after for many popular comic characters, this is the 2nd time this key issue makes it onto a key issues list on this site. Definitely worth considering to invest in and would be a proud addition to your vault even in VG grades.

A Justice League movie seems even more likely to happen, and early silver age Justice League of America appearances are already heating up in the market. This issue is no exception and was published July, 1960.

mycomicshop - Two slabbed copies here at the time of this writing. One is a CGC 5.0 VG/FN and the other is a 1.8.

eBay - Lots of CGC but all low grade copies. Highest is a 5.5 copy at the moment. Quite a few raw copies as well to look at.

ComicLink - A few CGC copies here. Highest is a 7.5 VF-. Plenty of raw copies, but they're all in the lower grade.

The Brave and the Bold #31
  • First appearance of Cave Carson
  • First appearance of Bulldozer  Smith
  • First appearance of Christie Madison
DC Comics' most famous spelunker and cave adventurer, Cave Carson's first appearance is in this issue, as well as his famous team mates he leads, Bulldozer Smith and Christie Madison.

This issue was published August, 1960.

eBay - Three CGC copies for this silver age key issue here for now. Highest is only a 5.0. Actually, there are two of them at that grade. One's a PGX. Raw copies available as well.

The Brave and the Bold #34
  • First appearance of Silver Age Hawkman
  • First appearance of Silver Age Hawkgirl
  • First appearance of Byth
  • Origin of Hawkman
Another one of the best Brave and the Bold key issues to greatly consider and one of the best Silver Age DC Comics to invest in as well. This marks the first appearance of Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl

Instead of bring back Carter Hall, the Golden Age Hawkman, Gardner Fox and Joe Kubert revamped the character. The Golden Age Hawkman was a reincarnation of the Egyptian prince, Khufu. The ninth metal is what gave the original Hawkman his ability to fly. However, the revamped Silver Age version was Katar Hol, an alien from Thanagar.

Katar Hol would be from Earth One, while his Golden Age counterpart, Carter hall, would reside on Earth Two.

It was the same for Hawkgirl, who was also a Golden Age character revamped during the Silver Age. She is the wife of Hawkman and both are police officers on their home planet.

mycomicshop - Two CGC copies here. Highest so far is a 5.0 VG/FN. Other slabbed copy is 4.5 VG. Two raw copies in the POOR range not really worth looking at.

eBay - Quite a few CGC graded copies. Highest is an 8.5. There's plenty of mid-grade CGC copies and lower grade ones also. No problem finding raw, unslabbed copies on the mighty eBay for now as well.

ComicLink - Quite a selection for both unslabbed and CGC copies at ComicLink for the moment. Highest CGC is a 9.0 and will cost you quite a bit of monies. They have lower grade CGC options also.

The Brave and the Bold #35
  • 2nd appearance of Silver Age Hawkman
  • 2nd appearance of Silver Age Hawkgirl
  • First appearance of Matter Master
Want to invest in both the first and 2nd appearance of Hawkman and Hawkgirl of the Silver Age, this one has the characters' 2nd appearances. This issue also has the first appearance of Matter Master, a long recurring foe of Hawkman whose real name is Mark Mandrill

Matter Master's "Mentachem" wand can reshape, transmute, or levitate any matter. This issue was published April, 1961.

eBay - 6 CGC graded copies for the 2nd appearance of Hawkman as of this writing on eBay. So far the highest is a mid-grade 6.0 FN. Pretty good amount of raw copies available for now also.

ComicConnect - All unslabbed copies here. Only about 4 at the time of this writing. Highest is a VG+.

The Brave and the Bold #36
  • 3rd appearance of Silver Age Hawkman
  • First appearance of Shadow Thief
  • Origin of Shadow Thief
If you're looking for the 3rd appearance of the Silver Age Hawkman, here it is in The Brave and the Bold #36. 2nd and 3rd appearances of major characters are being highly sought after nowadays.

This is the first appearance of Shadow Thief, the original one. The original or Pre-Crisis Shadow Thief is Carl Sands. A Dimensiometer and pair of ebony gloves allows him to shift his body into a two dimensional and intangible state like a shadow.

The special ebony gloves allows him to hold objects while in shadow form. This issue tells how he comes upon these objects and becomes a minor but recurring villain for Hawkman.

mycomicshop - Only one CGC copy here. It's a 7.0 FN/VF and extremely affordable for an early silver age Brave and the Bold key.

eBay - Only one CGC 7.0 copy at the time of this writing. A smattering of unslabbed copies if you don't care for CGC all that much.
