Spectacular Spider-Man Key Issue Comics

More Spidey key issues and there are a lot more in the Spectacular Spider-Man series than there are in the Web of Spider-Man comic series. Partly because this series started in the bronze age in 1976. Alright, let's kick off Part 1 to the Spectacular Spider-Man Key Issue Comics list here.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #1
  • First issue to titled series
  • First appearance of Edward Lansky
This bronze age key issue launches this spin-off Spider-Man titled series. There's not much more to talk about in terms of key issue status except that this first issue also has the first appearance of Edward Lanksy, who becomes a minor villain. We'll see him again on this list.

Still, this Spidey key has become a lot more valuable, especially in the high grade CGC range. Definitely one to consider if it ain't already in your vault.

eBay - CGC 9.8s are dropping around the $200 to $250 range depending if you spot an auction or not. Still a few CGC 9.8s available at decent prices. One's an auction priced pretty much at value (time of this writing). 9.6s are still below the $100 mark for auctions. No problem finding unslabbed copies for this key issue.

mycomicshop - Wow, loads of copies here. Highest are CGC 9.6s. Rest are unslabbed copies and highest raw copy is solid NM.

ComicLink - Quite a selection for CGC copies. 9.8s and 9.6s available.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #2
  • 2nd issue to titled series
Nothing much to say about this issue except that it's the 2nd one to this comic series. No first appearances or deaths of or anything...uhmm...spectacular.

eBay - A few copies available for both slabbed and unslabbed copies. One CGC 9.6 spotted and a 9.4, both under $100. CGC 9.8s are dropping under a hundred as well.

mycomicshop - Quite a few raw copies here. Highest is only a VF, though, at the time of this writing. May change once you read this.

NewKadia - Only two copies. Highest is a FN+.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #3
  • Intro Lightmaster
Back to Doctor Edward Lanksy, and he ends up using his genius to become a super villain. His path to crime was actually for a good cause, though, which was to prevent budget cuts for higher education that would have been detrimental to Empire State University where he was a physics professor. A criminal with a good cause.

This is Edward Lanksy's first appearance as Lightmaster, a pretty minor character, but he has been around and recently used in the Superior Spider-Man series.

eBay - No problem finding CGC copies. Highest is even a 9.9 at a pretty ridiculous price for such an obscure key issue. All high grade CGCs are quite affordable and well under $100.

mycomicshop - Unslabbed copies only here. No CGC yet. Highest grade is only a VF so far.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #27
  • First Frank Miller Daredevil art
Definitely a key that is heating up and becoming quite valuable. This is the first Daredevil artwork drawn by legendary comic artist and writer Frank Miller, who first gained comic stardom for his work on Daredevil.

Out of all the Spectacular Spider-Man key issues, this is probably the top one to gun for. No sleeper, but pretty under-valued in my humble opinion.

eBay - No problem finding high grade CGC slabs. Last 9.8 dropped around the $220 mark for an auction just a few days ago. May want to wait for one of those. 9.6s available as well as raw copies to try your luck with.

mycomicshop - Three CGC copies. Two are 9.8s, but one is Signature Series. Third is a CGC 9.6. No unslabbed copies yet for this key here.

ComicLink - CGC 8.5 VF+ here at the time of this writing.

ComicConnect - CGC 9.8 up for auction here. Three high grade unslabbed copies. Highest raw is a 9.2 so far.

NewKadia - More unslabbed goodness. Four copies here. Highest is a VF+

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #32
  • First appearance of Iguana
Doctor Curt Conners making trouble again. Try to rid himself of the Lizard condition, Conners experimented on an iguana that would later mutate and somehow gained the memories of Conners.

This monstrosity also had all of the Lizard's powers, but none of the humanity that Conners had. Truly a cold-blooded creature who came to be known as the Iguana. Not a very well-known key nor very sought after.

eBay - Not surprising that there are no CGC options for this issue just yet. Plenty of unslabbed copies.

mycomicshop - No surprise that there's only raw copies here either at the moment. Highest is a VF-.

NewKadia - Only one copy that's a VF+.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #33

  • The Origin of Iguana
  • 2nd appearance of Iguana
As I already explained in the previous listing above, this is the issue that tells the origin of how the Iguana came to be in all its mutated glory. It's also the character's 2nd appearance.

Pretty minor key and a minor Spidey foe. The character was in The Amazing Spider-Man video game, though.

eBay - Same deal here. No CGC options, but a few raw, unslabbed copies. Most seem to be in the lower grade, though. Probably may be best to get this sleeper key issue at a comic shop.

mycomicshop - More unslabbed copies, but no CGC yet.

NewKadia - Three copies here. Highest is a low NM. Other two are in the VF range.

Part 2 is ready so just click the link below to continue, or click the link to the left if you missed the Web of Spider-Man key issues list.
