Spectacular Spider-Man Key Comic Issues Part 2

Part 2 is ready to be gazed upon. A bit more Spectacular Spider-Man key comic issues to consider in this part. Some, of course, are still minor issues for the meantime.

If you missed Part 1, just click the blue link as usual to check that out. If you already have, enjoy Part 2.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #43
  • First appearance of Roderick Kingsley
Although Ned Leeds ended up being unmasked as the Hobgoblin, creator and writer Roger Stern was not happy with the decision that Ned Leeds was the Hobgoblin. So in 1997, he retconned this in the Spider-Man: Hobgoblin Lives three issue mini series that explain how Roderick Kingsley was indeed the true Hobgoblin and poor Ned Leeds was brainwashed to be a fall guy.

SUPER SLEEPER!!!! Over-looked as well, but I predict this will be a great key issue to snag soon. CGCs hard to find online.

mycomicshop - Unslabbed copies, mostly mid-grade and lower grade options.

eBay - A few unslabbed options. Surprised there aren't any CGC copies, but two CGC 9.8s did drop for this key issue this month for under $50! Definitely one to keep an eye out for!

ComicLink - Found one, and ComicLink brings the CGC goodness! 9.8 copy here for 45 bucks!

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #56
  • 2nd appearance of Jack O' Lantern
  • First battle between Spidey and Jack O' Lantern
Before he became the Hobgoblin II, Jason Macendale was Jack O' Lantern. This is his 2nd appearance as the character and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #56 also features the first battle between the two.

A little better known key issue, but still a sleeper. No sales for this key issue on eBay for past three months.

eBay - Plenty of super affordable raw copies for this issue. Many are in comic lots. Two CGC copies spotted. One is 9.8 and the other is a CGC 9.6.

NewKadia - Two copies here for this key issue. Highest is a VF+.

mycomicshop - Bunch of raw copies here for now.

ComicLink - One CGC 9.6 here.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #60
  • Origin retold with new facts
The second story to this issue is a retelling of the origin that's pretty much the same as it is in Amazing Fantasy #15. Two new scenes such as Peter Parker fighting off street thugs to discover he has powers and the attendance of uncle Ben's funeral were added.

This retelling was also modernized. Characters wore different attire and fashions than in the original.

eBay - Only unslabbed options so far on the mighty eBay. Still pretty affordable.

NewKadia - Two high grade copies with the highest being a solid NM available for sale.

ComicConnect - VF copy for sale here. It's a raw copy.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #64
  • First appearance of Cloak and Dagger
  • Origin of Cloak and Dagger revealed
This issue holds the first appearance of Cloak and Dagger, as well tells the origin of the pair. Both Tyrone Johnson (Cloak) and Tandy (Dagger) were both runaways who were forced to undergo tests for a new experimental synthetic herion drug. They somehow survived but the drug gave them powers. Cloak had the power to open a hole into the dimension of darkness, in which he could travel through and send others into as well. Cloak has a constant hunger for light.

Tandy developed the power to create psionic light daggers that can travel where she wills them. These light daggers can strip one of vitality if contact is made. Dagger can also heal or cure people of drug addictions were her powers, as she helps alleviate Cloak's hunger for light.

Their characters were later retconned, and they are now mutants born with their powers instead of gaining them. This key issue a bit more well-known. CGC 9.8s are not cheap but not too expensive. Around the $200 range. Definitely a key to consider within this titled series, though.

eBay - A few CGC options. Highest are 9.6s and both are Signature Series. CGC 9.4 and 9.2 also spotted. Loads of unslabbed, raw copies to consider as well.

mycomicshop -  CGC 9.0 located. Finally, mycomicshop has a slabbed copy. Unslabbed copy also available.

ComicConnect - VF+ unslabbed copy located.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #83
  •  Origin of Punisher retold
Who doesn't love a re-telling of the Punisher origin? Well, it's in this issue. No new facts or anything. Just a straight up retelling and a pretty minor key issue comic.

eBay - Two CGC copies. One is a 9.6 and one is a 9.8 Signature Series signed by Stan Lee.

NewKadia - Quite a bit of copies. Mostly high grade. NM copy available and a VF+.

Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #85
  •  Hobgoblin gains superhuman strength
In this issue the Hobgoblin messes around with the Goblin formula invented by Norman Osbourne. After bathing a little too long in it, he suffers the same psychosis, but gains the superhuman strength of the Green Goblin. Of course, he then wrecks havoc afterwards. I think this may be Ned Leeds, but probably wrong. Could be Kingsley.

eBay - No problem finding affordable unslabbed or CGC copies. No 9.8s though, but there are two 9.6 Universals and one 9.6 Signature Series. The Universals are super cheap.

NewKadia - Five copies here. Highest grade is a VF+, however.

mycomicshop -  No CGC. All unslabbed and highest is a VF. At the moment, that is. Could change depending on when you read this Spectacular Spider-Man key issues list.

ComicConnect - Unslabbed 9.0 copy for sale.

ComicLink - One CGC 9.8 Universal and regular U.S. edition. There are two CGC 9.8 Universal Canadian editions that seem to be more than the U.S. edition. Probably a lower print run or something.
