Evangeline Lilly Cast As Female Lead in Ant-Man Movie

The long wait is finally over and it seems that Marvel's Ant-Man movie has finally snagged their leading lady. Evangeline Lilly, the former Lost star and star of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has been confirmed to join the cast of Edgar Wright's upcoming Ant-Man movie.

The character she's playing has yet to be confirmed, though. Many believe she will be playing Janet Van Dyne, but new speculation is pointing that she may be playing a character that's not from the actual comics. That's nothing new in the world of comic book movies for sure.

It's long been discovered that the Ant-Man movie will center around Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, and Michael Douglas will be playing an older Henry Pym. Since Janet Van Dyne is Henry Pym's romantic interest in the comics, new rumors report that Evageline Lilly's character may be the daughter of Henry Pym and Scott Lang's love interest.

Edgar Wright has said before in interviews that Janet Van Dyne will be a love interest for Scott Lang and not be shown in the Wasp costume, though there will be hints towards her inevitable future.

I'm surely hoping that Marvel and the writers do not make up a character and Lilly is actually playing the Wasp. There's been an awful lot of that in comic book movies and the result always sucks.

Actually, I don't really care if Lilly is playing Janet Van Dyne, as long as somebody is and the character is portrayed. Evangline Lilly would look great in the Wasp costume, though. At least, she can pass for the character looks-wise.

But not having a Wasp in an Ant-Man movie is just, well, kind of wrong. She is an important part of Ant-Man's mythos as well as the Avengers. Well, nothing's been confirmed yet so it's way too early to throw a hissy fit.

Ant-Man is scheduled to open July 17, 2015.
