Part 2 of The Top Punisher Key Issue Comics List

Welcome to Part 2 of the top Punisher key issue comics list. Like I mentioned in Part 1, the Punisher comics did introduce a lot of characters into the mythos, but not many became important iconic figures within the Marvel Universe. Therefore, there are not many key issues in The Punisher comics worth noting.

Part 2 are mostly key comics for those who are on a tight budget. Many you can get for under a hundred bucks at CGC 9.8 grades. So let's get this on:

The Punisher #1 Limited Series comic cover
The Punisher #1-5 Limited Series
  • First Punisher in solo title
Much like Wolverine's career in comics, The Punisher would first star in his own title in a limited series, and both momentous events would come during the 80s. This limited series came out in 1986 and was a test run to see if The Punisher was ready for prime time to star in his own unlimited series. As we all know, he surely was.

This is a straight up copper age comic, and in medium demand. You can still get a CGC 9.6 for under a hundred bucks for issue #1 if you shop around.  Copper age = super high grade only. You're wasting your time if you get anything below a 9.6. Especially for this book since there are quite a few 9.8s floating around. Of course, I suggest a 9.8, but most sellers are over pricing this comic at 9.8 near $400.

eBay - You can click the link to see some of the options they have on eBay for this limited series. Quite a few unslabbed complete runs are being sold, and you may want to take your chances with those instead of getting an overpriced 9.8 slabbed copy.

They are priced quite low, but the chances you'll get 9.4 copies or lower are high. Or, you can wait for a slabbed 9.8 copy to go up for auction. Issues #2-5 should be selling lower than $100 even for 9.8 CGC copies for this series.

NewKadia - Only issues 2 and 3 available here. One copy for each and the highest is a low near mint.

mycomicshop - There's a 9.8 CGC Signature Series copy, and three CGC 9.6s for issue #1 Two of them are Signature Series and signed by Stan Lee as well. There are unslabbed copies available, of course.

For issues 2-5, there are all CGC 9.8 copies available at mycomicshop.

  • 1st ongoing Punisher series
It would only be a year later from The Punisher's trial run in his limited series that the character would finally hit prime time and star in his very own ongoing series. This is the comic book that introduced me to the character as a kid, and this is the comic that made me a fan.

This book is not in high demand yet, but it's inching that way. You can still get a CGC 9.8 for under a hundred bucks, but it's getting closer and closer towards that mark. How long that lasts I don't know, but this is a copper age key issue book. Don't bother with a 9.6 for this one. Get a 9.8, since this comic is still selling below a hundred dollars. Besides, there are plenty 9.8s for this comic in existence. This comic came out in 1987. It's not even 30 years old yet, but it will be in 3 more years.

I should also say that Punisher #2 is worth getting as well, even if I didn't list it here.

eBay - You'll have no problem finding both unslabbed and high grade slabbed copies here. Like I mentioned unslabbed copies for #1 are still dropping below the hundred dollar mark, though #1 for graded copies are getting nearer and nearer towards it even for auction listings.

You can always try unslabbed lots, which are greatly cheaper, but as I always say, you have the risk of paying for over-graded, restored, or even 2nd prints going that route. But, then again, you may get lucky and win an auction for an unslabbed copy that winds up being a 9.8 for a lot cheaper.

mycomicshop - CGC 9.8 located here for under a hundred bucks. Also some unslabbed copies but not investment grade for a copper age comic.

NewKadia - Only one copy here. Grade is a VF+ and under $11 bucks.

  • First appearance of Microchip
Gadgets, information, and most important - Weapons, Microchip has been the most integral supporting character in The Punisher comics. His absence in the Thomas Jane Punisher movie was one of the reasons I didn't like it all that much, and why I prefer the Punisher War Zone movie.

The first appearance of Microchip is a sleeper so far. The movie barely gave the character a push in demand, but I'm putting it on this list regardless. If you're on a budget, this is a key issue Punisher comic to consider.

eBay - Finding unslabbed copies on eBay should be no problem, but this comic is a sleeper and not really sought after just yet. CGC 9.8 copies are below $50 bucks for this first appearance of Microchip.

NewKadia - Two copies available for sale. Highest is a low near mint and lowest is VF+. Super affordable. Not even $6.

mycomicshop - CGC 9.8 for only $35 plus buyer's premium of $1.05.

  • Battle with Daredevil
Not really all that sure why this comic is worth more than other comics in the Punisher volume 2 series, but for some reason it is. Is it because he goes up against Daredevil? All I know is that this issue has art from Whilce Portacio, and he is absolutely my favorite artist to draw The Punisher from this series.

This is a comic you can still get for well under a hundred dollars at CGC 9.8 grades. Why this book is worth more than the first appearance of Microchip is beyond me.

eBay - Only a few options for unslabbed copies, and only one CGC 9.8 copy I located on the mighty eBay. You can click the link to check out the search results for this particular Punisher issue.

mycomicshop Two CGC 9.8 copies for under $50 bucks. Not a bad snag at all. There are also unslabbed options if you don't like graded comics.

NewKadia - Solid near mint copy available for under $14 dollars.

That's pretty much it for this key issue Punisher list. I've listed some pretty inexpensive copper age books. Some are on the rise, and a few are sleepers. No, I didn't go through volume 3 and 4. This is just a list of what I consider his top keys.

Thanks for reading and hope this helped you add some more great comics to your want lists. If you haven't read Part 1, you navigate your way to it with the blue Previous link below.

  2. I would love to see an update to this section. Punisher comics contain a multitude of characters and first appearances not listed here, most notably the Kingpin. Hope to see an additional list in the near future. Thanks.
