Lex Luthor Cast For Man of Steel Sequel!

I still have no idea what to call this movie. Many are calling it Superman vs. Batman, but it's a generic title that refers to the Man of Steel sequel.

I guess I'll just refer to it as the Man of Steel sequel until a title is actually confirmed by those at DC Comics and Warner Bros.

So far we have Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne (Batman) and Gal Godot as Wonder Woman, which is awesome news! At least to me. Why? Because as Kevin Smith recently said, "Batman vs. Superman smells like Justice League."

So we're definitely inching towards a more than possible Justice League movie, and that's a good thing. Many rumors are speculating that this sequel just may be a Justice League movie, but I'm not so sure about that.

For one, a lot of the Man of Steel's former cast like Laurence Fishborne and Amy Adams are returning to their respective roles as Perry White and Lois Lane for the sequel. Also the film just cast Superman's most notorious and arch enemy Lex Luthor.

And just who is playing this iconic super villain? None other than Jesse Eisenberg! That's right, the guy who starred in the movie The Social Network and played creator and Facebook owner, Mark Zuckerberg. Although I'm sure there are a lot of fans already groaning about the choice, I think Eisenberg did a remarkable job in The Social Network, and his work in that role is a great testament that he may very well pull off a very conniving and sinister Lex Luthor.

I'm sure that since Warner Bros. are the kings of dark comic book movies now, they'll want a much more darker Lex Luthor that portrayed in previous films. The young actor also has some pretty big shoes to fill considering that legendary actors such as Gene Hackman, still hailed as still the best portrayal of the character on the big screen, and Kevin Spacey have both stepped into the bald, suit wearing, self proclaimed, "Greatest Criminal Mind of The 20th Century."

That's not all either. Michael Rosenbaum's portrayal of young Lex in the hit t.v. series Smallville is also extremely popular as well. No pressure, but I think Jesse Eisenberg will be able to do just fine.

Besides, it's not really sure just how much Lex luthor will play a role in the Man of Steel sequel. It's obviously gonna be a young version of Lex Luthor for the sequel, and is Lex Luthor a powerful enough villain to handle Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman at the same time?

The character just may be a bit part. Who knows for now? All I know is that things are heating up over at DC/Warner concerning their comic book films.

As for the first appearance of Lex Luthor in comics, I can already hear, feel, and smell the demand for that Superman key issue already boiling up. If you don't know what it is or forgot you should click the blue link above to discover Lex's first appearance.

  1. Hmmm. I'm not sure how I feel about Eisenburg playing the role of Lex Luthor. He's not a bad actor but plays very similar roles in everything I've seen him in. I've been surprised before though (ie, Heath Ledger as the Joker). I also just read that they cast Jeremy Irons as Alfred. How do you feel about that choice?

    1. Jeremy Irons as Alfred? Now that one I don't see at all. That's a strange casting choice. I do like Jeremy Irons as an actor, but I just don't see him as Alfred. Like you said, though, I could be pleasantly surprised.
