Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #8 CGC 9.6

Let me introduce myself. My name is Gerry. The same Gerry that's been mentioned on this site a few times before. I'm a fan of Total Comic Mayhem and a friend of Vic. I was here reading about his experiences and decided to write about my first CGC experience at the Big Wow Comic Fest.

I had purchased a copy of Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #8 on eBay a few months before the Con. As most comic fans know, this is the issue where Spidey gets the infamous black symbiote suit.

The seller listed it in NM condition. I was skeptical but the pics looked good and it was less than $20, so I took a chance. When I got it, I thought it looked great and when I heard that CGC was having a booth at the Big Wow, I decided to get it graded.

We arrived, Vic and I, with our treasures in our backpacks and started looking for the elusive CGC booth. We were both excited to submit our books. His a Giant Sized X-Men #1 and an Amazing Spider-Man #6  and mine Secret Wars #8. It must have taken us an hour to find the CGC booth. Not because it was a big convention, but because we can't navigate for crap. Finally, we found the booth down an isle that we somehow managed to miss multiple times, and submitted our books.

Then we played the waiting game. Over the next few weeks I was wondering what grade my book would come back as. I knew it was in good condition and thought it would grade well, maybe a 9.0-9.2. Vic was always telling me about his nightmares about his books coming back in a Restored condition and starting putting doubts in my head about my book. What if mine was restored? What if it was a second printing? What if a page was missing or something else I may have missed? I was checking to see if my comic had been delivered on a daily basis, hoping every time a large truck drove by it was UPS with my book. Always with these doubts in my mind "Please don't be a second printing".

Three and a half short months later, I got it!!! Finally!!! I got my book back!! I quickly threw the box on my bed. Got a knife and opened that sucker up. I dug through all the bubble wrap and packing peanuts and there it was. A fat 9.6 staring me in the face. I immediately sent Vic a text. He was almost more excited than I was. I stared at it for a good long time and thought, "I got my first book graded and it came back a 9.6. Not to mention a book I bought on eBay." I was, and still am, super stoked. I can't wait to get my next book graded.
