What We Know About Avengers 2 Age of Ultron So Far!

So, it appears that Joss Whedon has been squashing some rumors and going on record to confirm a few things. Here's what we know from the mouth of the lion about the avengers sequel - Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

1. Loki is out!

That's right! The God of Mischief, Loki, will not be returning for the Avengers 2 movie, and it's been confirmed by both director Joss Whedon and actor Tom Hiddleston. Confirming in Entertainment Weekly, Hiddleston said,

"He's not in it. Here's the thing: I don't think there's anything else Loki could contribute to The Avengers, narratively. Joss gave me so many wonderful things to do in that first film that we'd only be trying to repeat ourselves, and probably less well in the second one."

As much as I really loved what they did with Loki in the movies so far, it does make sense. Two huge villains in the sequel would just be a jumbled mess, especially since there are plans to add new characters..

2.  Quicksilver and The Scarlett Witch Will Assemble!

Well, it seems that earlier reports were wrong about Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch being the baddies in the Avengers sequel. Joss Whedon now says that the two will join on the side of the Avengers in the next movie.

I do prefer for them to be fighting along side of the Avengers, as they are two very popular characters of the team in the comics. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but the rumor mill does cite that Kick Ass star Aaron Taylor Johnson is the front-runner to play Pietro Maximoff, also known as the mutant speedster Quicksilver.

It's gonna be interesting how they introduce these two characters. Will Whedon have to change their origin around and change the fact they are mutants as well? I can see the studio muddling up the fact they are mutants and giving some other lame reason for how they gained their superpowers. I sure hope not, but it does seem that one important origin will be meddled with.

3. Ultron Will Be Created By Tony Stark!

For those of you who called it, bravo! Yes, it seems that Whedon will muddle up the origin of Ultron and have genius Tony Stark be the robots creator instead of genius Henry Pym, the Ant-Man.

In learning of this bit of news, I was kinda disappointed. With the Ant-Man movie coming out after Avengers 2 Age of Ultron during the same year, it would've been easy to set up Ant-Man's character in the Marvel cinematic continuity by having Henry Pym be the creator of Ultron.

They didn't even have to show the character. It could've been revealed in passing.

It is a little small quirk, but still. I'm not sure why Whedon and Marvel opted to go that route, but they probably have their reasons in twisting the origin around. I still think that could've been extremely easy to avoid.

Boy, Marvel sure does love red heads. It seems there will now be two red head hottie superheroines in the same flick. Speaking of redheads:

4. Black Widow Will Have A Larger Role in Avengers 2!

Confirming this at San Diego Comic Con this year, Joss Whedon explained that the character of Natasha Romanoff, played by Scarlett Johansson, will have a more significant role in the upcoming sequel.

"She was the most fun for me because she's not a hero, you know, and it's something that I read - and I feel bad that I can't remember who wrote the book - but it's in one of the books explaining: 'These guys are heroes, you are a spy. It's a different thing, it's a different skill set, and you don't have their moral high ground or any of that good stuff,'" Whedon continued. "And that just makes her so interesting to me. So yeah, the stuff I've got going on with her in the second one is killer."

Whether Black Widow has a more significant role or a lesser role, I really could care less. Either way it's all good to me.
