Superman and Batman Will Meet In Man of Steel Follow Up Movie!

Well, it seems that DC/Warner Bros. announced at the San Diego Comic Con that the follow up movie to Man of Steel will be a...can you guess? No, it's not Justice League. It looks like DC Comics two greatest superheroes will collide in a team up in 2015.

I debated pretty long about even writing about this news, considering DC/Warner's wishy-washy minds when it comes to their plans for their comic book movie properties. At first, they confirmed a Justice League movie to answer the success of Marvel/Disney's Avengers last year. Then they changed their tune and said a Justice League movie will depend on the success of Man of Steel.

Now that Man of Steel has proven successful with a world wide box office gross of $635,827,010 so far, it seems the DC Comics and Warner Bros. camp are once again changing their minds. So, even though the idea of Superman and Batman coming together in a movie is awesome, I wasn't sure if this was just another cry wolf.

However, Zack Snyder, director of Man of Steel, has confirmed at SDCC that these two legendary heroes will meet and fight each other on screen. He also said, “Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest superheroes in the world.”

It seems that Zack Snyder will helm this legendary bout that's expected to come out in 2015, but considering DC/Warner's recent history of twiddling their thumbs and changing their minds as much as a little kid does when it comes to what he or she wants to eat, I ain't holding my breath.

What is pretty solid is that the actor and star of the Superman reboot, Henry Cavill, will reprise the role of Superman. He'd be an idiot if he didn't, but it isn't certain if Christian Bale will reprise his role as Batman or not. The actor of the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy has expressed time and time again that he has no wish to don the cowl again for a Justice League movie, so it's expected Christian Bale's tune won't change for a Superman Batman movie either. Besides, Snyder did mention "new Batman" in his statement at the San Diego Comic Con recently.

However, the Dark Knight Rises did hint to the changing of the guard at the end. Perhaps, Warner Bros. has planned that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will step in as the new Batman, even though it seems that the movie studio as well as the actor has claimed otherwise. So, what's on a lot minds is the question, who will be the new Batman?

It also looks like Christopher Nolan will have very little involvement in the follow up to Snyder's Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder has already confirmed the project is in pre-production already. Writer of Man of Steel and co-writer of Nolan's Batman trilogy, David S. Goyer, has the daunting task of coming up with the script for this Superman/Batman movie which is yet to be titled.

So far that's good news. They have a writer, director, and star actor, Henry Cavill. It's also reported that actress Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Laurence Fishbourne (Perry White), and Diane Lane, who played Martha Kent, are already on board for the project.

It very well may seem that is going to happen! I surely hope so. It would be amazing to see these two iconic comic book characters go at it on screen!

So, while we were expecting and hoping for a Justice League movie in 2015, we may get a Superman/Batman movie instead. Talks of a Justice League film has that particular movie pushed back to 2017. I just hope that DC/Warner doesn't get cold feet yet again. Right now is the time to strike on a shared DC universe on the big screen. Marvel has already paved the way with the Avengers, but will DC and Warner Bros. be able to tackle the extremely delicate project of Batman and Superman sharing the screen together? What do you think?

  1. Hmmmm....Well as much as I'd rather have a JLA Film, this might make a bit more sense. If these two battle it out that would equal more $$$ for Warner, and might start a plot lead-in for JLA, especially if the 2 are fighting and come across a MORE Powerful Enemy than each other....Hmmm....

    1. Yes, it does make more sense, but I seriously hope DC/Warner goes full speed ahead with their confirmation this time around. Fans have been long waiting to see something like this and now is the time.
