Avengers 2 Villain & Partial Plot Revealed At SDCC!

While DC, Warner Bros., and Zack Snyder made their huge announcement about the Man of Steel sequel that caused a lot of excitement at the San Diego Comic Con recently, Marvel had exciting news of their own that caused quite a stir as well. Judging from the banner above you can already guess what the news was.

And it's true! At the SDCC, director Joss Whedon showed a video that included snippets from the first Avengers movie while the camera rounded around a shiny metal surface. Most in attendance thought the visual was an extreme close up of Iron Man's helmet, but when the shot pulled back, fans were delighted to see the head of one of Marvel's most iconic villains, Ultron, instead! The video then ended with the banner you see above.

Ultron imageWhile those in attendance who were not familiar with the comics may have been scratching their heads wondering why this teaser was met with such enthusiasm, the news makes perfect sense for fans of the comic books. Actually, some had even called that Ultron might be the next villain as soon as Marvel and Disney confirmed an Ant-Man movie was to take place.

How is this so? It has everything to do with the fact that Henry Pym created the artificial intelligence that would become known as Ultron. And, of course, this artificial intelligence starts thinking on its own and develops its own ambitions and goals, which includes killing off his maker.

This fills in quite a bit of gaps, while leaving some questions as well. With this news, it seems that we can expect at least a cameo of Ant-Man in Avengers 2 or a nod to the character, most likely at the end.

We can also safely assume that the Avengers team will mainly be facing off with the chaos that Ultron creates in Avengers 2. However, will this lead to Ultron creating the Vision to destroy the Avengers and finally confirming that the Vision will finally get his onscreen debut?

Regarding the recent news that Vin Diesel has met with Marvel behind closed chambers it does seem to lean towards that way. Especially, when Vin Diesel tweeted some clues after the meeting about his possible role in Avengers 2 [read about Vin Diesel Avengers 2 tweets], as well as a recent interview on MTV.

Or, could the Vision be saved for Avengers 3 like Thanos will now most likely be?

When asked about his meeting with the mighty Marvel, Diesel mentioned that Marvel had 8,000 characters. He then mentioned that there's actually two Visions, and one was created by Ultron and the other created by Proctor in an alternate universe.

Okay, with over 8,000 characters, now why would Vin Diesel drop knowledge on the Vision, and why was it the only character he mentions in the interview out of the 8,000 characters Marvel has in its aresenal?

Hmmmmm...but, this also leads to the question of how is the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver going to fit into all of this?
