Benicio Del Toro Joins The Cast of Guardians of the Galaxy!

"He'll flip ya...flip ya for real!"

It seems that the latest shocker to come out recently is the Usual Suspects and Sin City star, Benicio Del Toro, joining the Guardians of the Galaxy cast. Creating even more buzz is that fact that he has been cast in a mystery role.

However, because it was announced that Del Toro has been cast as "a character that is built to be part of future Marvel films", speculation is already buzzing around the fandom realm about just who this character possibly could be. Most are speculating Thanos, but I'm not betting my ducats on that.

So which Marvel character do I think Del Toro will step into the role of? Actually, I have two possible characters he may inhabit for this film.

The first one is none other than Adam Warlock! Yes, that's right. There has been on going rumors that Adam Warlock just may appear in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy.

I think Benicio Del Toro could pull off this character. A little hair dye, some orange make up, a little special effects to give him completely white eyes, and you'll have Adam Warlock ready to go.

It's quite plausible that Warlock will indeed make his entrance in the Marvel cinematic world soon. It's no big secret that Marvel wants to expand it's movie universe and desires to get into the more cosmic/space realm.

After all, when the Infinity Gauntlet starts coming more into play in the Marvel movies, I have no doubt we'll be seeing a lot more of Mr. Adam Warlock as well as Thanos himself. After all the character did star in the comic title Warlock and the Infinity Watch

But there's another rumor that's also been buzzing around concerning Adam Warlock as well. It has to do with the alternate and insane version of Adam Warlock known as Magus

Since we've all seen Benicio Del Toro play a great crazy person (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) as well as a great villain in Sin City, I do believe that he could pull off Warlocks evil future self quite amazingly, in fact.

But, of course, this is just my two cents. Nobody outside the secretive walls of Marvel, Disney, and the Guardians of the Galaxy movie camp really knows.

UPDATE: Benicio Del Toro will not play Adam Warlock but a Marvel character called The Collector! Yeah, I know, lame!

Zoe Saldana picture
As for more casting news, the absolutely gorgeous Zoe Saldana has also been cast as Gamora in Guardians. Despite my not so secret crush on Saldana, I believe her to be a great choice for the role, as the Star Trek Into Darkness and Avatar star is no stranger to the Sci-Fi/Fantasy world of movies.

However, Gamora will be a tricky character to play. She is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe...strong enough to even slay the likes of Adam Warlock, Thanos, and Magus.

To further my speculation about Del Toro playing either Warlock or Magus is that Gamora is the adoptive daughter of Thanos in the comics. She was trained by him for the sole purpose of defeating the Magus. It would be strange to introduce Gamora in the movie but leaving that part out. It's part of the essence of her character and origin. Well, whether Magus is the main villain or not, I think Saldana will be amazing as Gamora.

Michael Rooker pic
Michael Rooker, who played in Jumper and Kevin Smith's Mallrats, has also joined the cast of Guardians as well. God, I've been wanting to make a reference to Mallrats and Kevin Smith for the longest time, so thank you very much Mr. Rooker.

It seems Rooker will step into the Guardians of the Galaxy character Yondu, who happens to be an original team member of the 1969 Guardians of the Galaxy comic series.

Marvel Comics Yondu imageYondu is a blue-skinned, Zatoan tribal hunter from Centauri IV who ends up helping to form the Guardians of the Galaxy to fight the intergalactic threat of the Badoon. Yondu has no superhuman physical powers, but is a mystic with an intuitive sixth sense power that permits him limited empathetic relationships with nature and other lifeforms.

Should be an interesting character to see onscreen. As for Rooker, I've never pictured him really playing a superhero, so him playing this role should be interesting to watch as well.

Latest cast members have also reported that Fatal Attraction star Glenn Close will play the head of the Nova Corps. The role has not been named as of yet, and Doctor Who actress Karen Gillan has been cast as a mystery villain so far.
