Wolverine Confirmed For X-Men Days of Future Past Movie!

With a tweet from director Bryan Singer, it's now confirmed that Hugh Jackman will reprise the role of Wolverine for the sequel to X-Men First Class. That makes sense!

Considering the sequel is titled X-Men Days of Future Past and based off the story line written by Chris Claremont from the Uncanny X-Men comics, not having Wolverine in the film would seem odd. He is, after all, an important character in the X-Men Days of Future Past story.

But how much will the character of Wolverine be in the film? In an interview with MTV News, Jackman said,

"Yes, I've been talking with Bryan about it. I did a very small cameo [in 'First Class']. I said, 'As long as it's no longer than three hours [of work] like last time...' "

I surely hope he just doesn't want to do a small bit in the film. I know he must be getting sick of the role. After all, he is currently filming The Wolverine.

However, the beloved Chris Claremont (writer) and John Byrne (artist) Uncanny X-Men issues #141 and #142 alternates between an apocalyptic future caused by the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly and the present day X-Men who are forewarned by a future Kitty Pryde, whose mind travels back in time to possess her younger self.

In the apocalyptic future, the death of Senator Kelly sparks more fear and anti-mutant feelings, in which the Sentinels were reactivated to "eliminate the mutant menace once and for all." In Terminator fashion, the Sentinels believe the best way to carry out their objective is to take over the U.S. After the Sentinels take over, other nations, fearful of the Sentinels, declare nuclear war.

Only a select few mutants are placed in concentration camps, while the rest were wiped out. Wolverine is the only mutant from the X-Men who has yet to be caught and is part of what's called The Canadian Resistance.

So while the present day X-Men race to stop the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants from assassinating the senator, Wolverine races to break out the surviving X-Men members from the concentration camp and then attempt to knock out the Sentinels' headquarters.

This is the comic book story, of course. How accurate the movie stays to this story has yet to be revealed. I expect them to change things, but I seriously hope they don't change too much.

Bryan Singer has already reported that the movie will follow the formula taken from the comic, and the film will alternate between events happening in the future and events happening in the present.

So the original X-Men First Class cast of James McAvoy as younger Professor X, Michael Fassbender as younger Magneto, and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique will be returning.

If that is the case then who else from the original X-Men movie cast will be making a return?

it's already been confirmed that Ian Mckellan and Patrick Stewart are both on board to reprise their roles as Magneto and Professor X for X-Men Days of Future Past. The fact that there's a future Professor X is already deviating from the comics, as Charles Xavier is dead in the future. Magneto is still alive, however.

Famke Janssen as Jean Grey from the X-Men Movie

In recent news, it also seems that Fox is in talks with Famke Janssen to reprise her role as Jean Grey for the X-Men First Class sequel. If that is true, then I don't think they will introduce the character of Rachel Summers, who also plays a pivotal role in the comic story. She is the telepath who sends the mind of the future Kitty Pryde to possess her younger self in the past.

It's always good to see Famke Janssen on screen, but this would be a perfect time to introduce new X-Men characters to the big screen like Rachel Summers. I doubt they do this, however.

James Marsden, who played Cyclops, is also in talks about returning to the role, but his character really isn't needed. In the comics two part story, Cyclops is dead. The only surviving four members of the X-Men in the apocalyptic future are Wolverine, Kitty Pryde, Colossus, and Storm.

Halle Berry as Storm from the original is who the studio should be focused on getting back for the film now. I hope they do get her back.

And I hope they reintroduce Colossus back onto the big screen. In the comic story, he and Kitty Pryde are married, and I really hope they have that element in the movie. It was a great element for the comic story.

Which brings me to the question. Are they going to reintroduce Kitty Pryde for the movie? How can they not, as she is the main protagonist in the X-Men Days of Future Past story arc in the comics

God, please have Kitty in the movie. I would love to see Colossus and Kitty Pryde in this movie. However, there is no news or mention of casting for either role.

I hope they don't screw up this story too much in the movie. It's one of my favorites. The story is already there. They don't have to tweak much of it from the original.

This movie, nevertheless, has the promise to be epic. If they have a lot of Sentinels in the movie, I can only expect the film to be awesome! Will us X-Men fans finally get to see our mutant heroes go up against Sentinels? God, I can only hope so!
